Hello, this is my first post here.
I would like to know what would be your suggestions for a free (or a not very expensive) software to use to transform my CD collection into digital files that would be used in a Raspberry Pi 3B. Flac or Wave ? What are Software that are available ?
Thanks a lot and Happy Holidays, M.

Most operating systems come with some form of convertor but if you have a Windows based system, VLC audio convertor is free and very good.
For a Mac WavePad.
Have fun.

Hello Aczern, thanks a lot, I will look into that right now. Happy Holidays to you all.

Thanks a lot Jon Snell ! Happy Holidays to you all.
CDex is another I can recommend, I prefer it to EAC which no longer seems to be supported by its author. You can configure and rip directly to flac files if wish with either of these tools. (Don't rip to MP3 or any lossy format) These are open source and/or free.
If you want to Rip and manage your library, you can have a look at MusicBee.

Hi Kevin, thanks. No MP3 for me !!
Remastering -> you probably meant ripping, or more formally Digital Audio Extraction (DAE).
fre:ac - free audio converter
fre:ac - free audio converter
TOPfre:ac is a free audio converter and CD ripper with support for various popular formats and encoders. It currently converts between MP3, MP4/M4A, WMA, Ogg Vorbis, FLAC, AAC, WAV and Bonk formats.
With fre:ac you easily rip your audio CDs to MP3 or WMA files for use with your hardware player or convert files that do not play with other audio software. You can even convert whole music libraries retaining the folder and filename structure.
The integrated CD ripper supports the CDDB/freedb online CD database. It will automatically query song information and write it to ID3v2 or other title information tags.
Its not free but DBPoweramp https://www.dbpoweramp.com/ has proven to be a really good investment. it ID's the disk, gets the metadata, checks the quality of the rip etc. and can convert to any format really quickly. With a big library being able to process disks quickly and get good results is worth an investment. They will be around for a while.
Jriver is used by many for playback which it does really well and can also rip. Again for a fee.
