For Sale: Empire 598-II Troubadour turntable. All original, save cartridge replacement with Grado cartridge.
I've owned this for about 8 years- in that time, it's been absolutely dependable. Never an issue, save for the cueing getting sticky (not wanting to readily drop the arm) for the first few minutes of playing, if I leave it sitting for more than a few months (I have several tables, so not all of them get played all the time). A few cycles of "helping" the cue go down, and it works fine thereafter, in any case, if it does get left unused long enough to stick. The end-of-record magnetic arm lift works perfectly, as well.
The table really is in great shape- original woodwork is very nice, and the table itself- including the clear part of the dustcover- has barely any scratches that can be seen once you're more than a foot away from the table. The platter has some minor pitting around the edge (typical for all of these), but nothing out of the ordinary (a few dark spots).
The motor and spindle run quietly and steadily, and the table just works as it should. If I didn't have several other very good tables (including my usual go-to, modded AR-XA with Rega tonearm), there's no way I'd sell this one.
Selling for $500.00 plus shipping. No, it's not the cheapest 598 you'll see, but you will see few that are in better shape, after all these years. Located in Marietta GA (zip 30066).
BTW: I don't have Paypal- I usually work with postal money orders.
Thanks!
Regards,
Gordon.
