FS IPL S5TL Loudspeakers

IPL S5TL loudspeakers for sale in very good condition.

Please click here for photo's of both speakers and the external crossovers.

I bought these recently from the original owner and builder of the speakers. World Design Forum Advert

They are from 2004, using a 10" Audax PR240M6 for the bass, Audax HM130Z12 for the mid and the Morel MDT30S treble unit. Without stands they measure (H x W x D) 37" x 17" x 12.75" or 940mm x 324mm x 430mm and are very heavy. A definite two person lift.

Stands are included and raise the speakers ~4.5" (120mm). The stands are spiked but the speakers are not. The speakers sit on large rubber grommets on the stand, lifting them another 1/2" or so.

IPL build documentation is included.

They are veneered in Santos Rosewood to the sides and top by the previous owner.

The speakers can be demonstrated with my PP valve amp which I have configured in triode for ~10wpc. I can also demonstrate them with my NVA A60 amp (also for sale soon).

These speakers must be either collected in person from GL52 or alternatively I will deliver within 50 mile radius for 10p per mile.

Asking price is £400. I will consider a swap/px with cash going either way (see below), which I believe is good for what is a high quality pair of loudspeakers in really good shape and is what I paid for them.

Reason for sale is I figured out how to integrate a replacement treble unit with my KLS3's following the discovery of the occasional wrinkling of the Audax HD3P unit. This wrinkling indicates the HD3P treble units are running out of steam and I don't have the ability to repair them. I had previously thought integrating a standard treble unit was a hopeless case so I bought the IPLs as a replacement loudspeaker, however, I prefer the presentation of the KLS3s so I either need to further improve the KLS3s or try another alternative loudspeaker.

Items of interest to me for either a swap or p/x

Benchmark DAC in chrome or black
SEAS Excel T25CF-002 Millennium Treble units
World Design WD25T Loudspeakers
Squeezebox Duet controller and remote
iPod Touch
Possibly a wooden equipment support (4 shelves minimum) such as Quadraspire or similar.

If anyone has loudspeakers they may be interested in swapping with the IPLs please let me know what they are and I'll let you know if I'm interested. My main amplifier is a PP Ella from DIY HiFi Supply.

Any questions please fire away.

Ta

Brian

I have a pair of Monitor Audio Bronze B4's - would you be interested in P/X? I am near Worcester.

Hi Richie

Thanks for the reply.

Monitor Audio isn't something I'm really interested in, sorry.

For p/x loudspeakers I'm looking for something that works particularly well with a valve amp', so I'm looking at the likes of Snell, Audio Note, WD25T's and such like. The KLS3's I've been using for about 8 years now are fairly high quality, replacing a pair of Naim SBLs which though an acquired taste, can be a decent speaker.

I see, thanks Brian, I can offer you £250 Paypal, as long as I can hear them before I buy. I will pick them up from you. Gloucester isn't too far away! I'm looking for something a little brighter in the upper-mid and upper range, would these suit my taste?

I'm sure the bass is tight and controlled, what are the lower-midranges like? I have a Tripath Class D amp.

The overall presentation you describe in the first post - is it lacking in this respect Brian?

Oh, and lastly, what impedance will my amp see?

Thanks,
Rich.

edit: I can bring my amp with me and perhaps try in situ?

Please take a look at this link to the current S5TL version from IPL.

The model of S5TL I'm selling use Audax drivers and not the current IPL branded drivers so they're not the same, but you'll get an idea of what they're like from Ivan's website. The cabinet and design concept is the same. What is the size of room you would plan to use these in?

These are large transmission line loudspeakers and as such produce a "big" sound that goes down very low. They produce an effortless sound that in many ways is superior to my KLS3's but the overall balance of the KLS3's is preferable to me. The KLS3's seem better integrated to me and that's why I prefer the KLS3.

I won't sell the IPLs for less than £300, tbh I think they're worth the £400 I paid for them it's just that I don't plan to use them so they can go for what I think is a bargain price at £300. My plan is to get my KLS3s working with a new treble unit, therefore I'm prepared to take a loss on the IPLs to go to someone who will make use of them but that's the size of loss I'll accept.

Edit : I should add that another individual expressed an interest yesterday evening so they have first shout.

Thanks Brian, I am prepared to pay £280 Paypal if the deal falls through, but I would like to audition them at your place with my amp first. The room is a very large one. (22ft x 16ft and 15ft high.) My amp is 150W RMS into each channel at 8 ohms.

Thanks again for the info,
ATB,
Rich.
