Hello,
I'm a DIY newbie in India, interested in building a pair of full-range speakers to be driven from a modest NAD 3020i amp. Unfortunately, all of the plans suited to my requirements in terms of size, complexity and performance require drivers that are unavailable to me (TABAQ, Cyburgs-Needles, Cyburgs-Sticks). Importing involves prohibitive shipping costs. The closest thing to full-range drivers available to me are the P-Audio BM-8CXA coaxial 8" (Spec PDF).
I've searched most forums and am unable to find any hints about what kind of enclosures will work with these drivers. Some people seem impressed with them, though. I'd like to build a full-range pair of speakers using these drivers that image well, have reasonable bass (anything will sound better than my current Sonys). Ideally, they will be of modest size; an ML TQWT perhaps? I might consider large enclosures, but I'm quite clear that divorce is not an option. Any pointers would be appreciated.
Thanks
Tushar

I've found a nice site with some informations about PAudio ... You can find something on Common Sense Audio ... From the same site I've seen that PAudio speakers are not that cheap (at least here in the West of the World 🙂) .. I think that even with an high shipping cost, a pair of FR125S from CSS or a pair of TangBang will cost a lot less then a pair of PAudio 🙂
I modeled a ML TL enclosure with this driver. I haven't built it though, but I'm sure it should work fine. It is meant to be placed near walls/corners to get satisfactory bass level. Dimensions are like this
Driver at top
L= 100cm
CSA= 22cmx20cm(widthXdepth)
r=5cm
l=4cm
port at the bottom of enclosure
If you keep them near wall or corners you won't have to apply baffle step compensation and you will have some 94 dB eff. If you plan to use them away from walls, bass will be too "thin".
You can use vent with adjustable length and try different length (from 4 to 8). It is hard to predict what will be optimum length, as it is dependable of your room and your preferences.
Don't have any ideas for crossover yet.

Arrrrrrrrrrgh,
Although Common Sense Audio sell damned near every fullrange driver out there, and even though they are here in my backyard I'd think twice before using any of there cabinet designs. I've never heard anything good about them. In fact one guy I know whose opinion on audio stuff I trust greatly stated that any driver in one of those enclosures would sound horrible! His opinion was that they are just a simple reflex box that they stuff any and all drivers in.
I'd be careful.

I'm going to build my firts BIB (after a TQWT with TangBang and a BR with a couple of CSS FR125S) ... Using AN 6.5 super .. 🙂 I've heared about Audio Nirvana on the following site: TNT Audio ... 🙂 .. I don't want to go off topic .. Audio Nirvana sells cheap plans for the PAudio.. Maybe it's possible to find other designs around the net .. this is the right place to put links to PAudio projects 🙂

Thanks for the interest folks. Tomac, I do intend to use the speakers near the corners of the room, so I think an MLTL might suit me. Pardon my ignorance, but what do the variables r and l indicate? I got the cross-section and line length -- that sounds like a reasonable size.
r is the radius of the port
l is the length of a port
let us now how speakers work when you finish them

Don't get me started on CSA. Drivers = fine. Cabinet 'designs' = worthless IMO.

I have a pair of OBs designed by Danny Richie that use P-Audio 12" coax, along with OB servo subs....He sells these as DIY....electronics and drivers only.
This is one of the finest sets of speakers I have heard....
He also designs a smaller version that uses the 8" P-Audio with dual non servo
subs. These speakers are getting many fine reviews.
Here is a link if your interested.
