Hey everybody,
This is my first post on these forums, so I apologize if this isn't in the right place. One of my close friends has a Pioneer VSX-821-K Receiver that quit working a while back. He took it into a repair center and they diagnosed the problem as a "bad preamp module". I was wondering if anyone here could give me some guidance on how to identify the preamp module inside the casing and possibly how to replace it, though simply identifying it is the most immediate challenge.
Thanks in advance for any advice you have to offer!

Are you fully conversant with SMD u Processor controlled electronics, equipped with the full service manual and knowledgeable about the test modes and reset sequences?
If not, take it to a dealer as it is extremely complex.
Having said that, it is not likely to require a "module" as Pioneer do not supply modules as a spare part. They don't fail. It is a component within the system that fails.
IC400 is the Audio input A-D processor. Check there is the correct voltage on pin 30. It must measure 6.8volts. Run through the input from the input socket to IC400's input pin and see if you get digital information on the prescribed output pin. Check the error log whilst employing Test mode.
Hope that helps and good luck.
