Hi all,
Newbie to the forum here and been reading alot lately, a ton of great threads.Anyhow, I am looking for my best option to add a HD FM tuner to an existing HTIAB receiver that I am now using in my garage? It only has the basic FM tuner, but I now have a HD antennae mounted and coax running to my receiver and would like to be able to utilize it and grab a couple of my local HD stations? I know there are receivers out there that have a built in HD-FM tuner in them but I would like to try to utilize the receiver I have already via one of the AUX inputs.
Any suggestions are much appreciated,
Steve

You'll be hard pressed to find FM HD tuners in today's market; there are nearly none compared to three years ago. I got my Sony XDR-F1HD tuner back when there was a $50 rebate on the $99 tuner, and haven't regretted it one tiny bit.

HD has become a car radio market, alas.

There's no such thing as an HD radio antenna; that's marketing hype. DAB, yes, because it's in a different RF frequency band.

Yeah I've read a lot about that Sony XDRF1HD but now a discontinued thing of the past, seen an occasional one here and there for sale on the net...used for $225-250 rediculas price.....
Explain the DAB if ya don't mind? I bought the FMSS omnidirectional antenna because it suppose to pick up HD broadcasts? Assuming just like a car HD radio usually needs a separate HD antenna (unless like some models use your existing antenna) so is it just the specific tuner and a good regular antenna that's needed for HD broadcasts in the home? ?

Brian's site is the go-to for FM antennas and reception resources; I want to build his 9 element Korner Yagi.

DAB is a European digital standard, not quite the quality of HD Radio; DAB operates on another frequency band and does require a separate antenna. HD (hybrid digital) operates on an otherwise standard FM frequency with the analog carrier, but weaker, so a good FM antenna may be necessary. I get perfect reception with a ribbon antenna on HD signals, less so on analog only stations; multipath is a problem in my valley location.

HD Radio is far from perfect and has some major issues, but it has worked extremely well for me on FM. AM, there's almost no presence in Seattle.

Well, ordered the JVC portable tuner, looks like from alot of reviews I'll be looking into a antenna mod for the house...I'll have to make a pigtail adapter to go from a 2.5mm phono jack to a RG-6 connector...a little soldering and tweaking and should work out fine..anyone have any reccomended suggestions for the best way to make one? I planned on just using an old 2.5mm cord, cutting off about a 6-8" whip and then just soldering and shrink wrapping the 2 conductors needed to a short piece of coax cable? ? Should work? ?
