Hi Guys.
I have just came up with a new scoop design, I call it a Hybrid Scoop.
It uses the 18sound LW2400. 18" driver. The driver is mounted back to front, meaning the magnet faces the front. Don't ask why, I just thought it looks cool but there's nothing stopping me flipping the driver round. So far it sound real good as this was modeled after my last scoop bins I came up with.
I wanted to take it another step further so came up with this design hoping to get a little more bottom end and more SPL over whats already out there in the scoop world.
My only issue is that I'm totally useless on the technical side of things I Don't even know how to read graphs..sad but true My strngh is my ideas and cabinet making skills.
I need help to tune the front area of this hybrid. I was thinkg something like 2 x 4" port holes? it can't be that simple surely?
See pics below and let me know what you think? Your help is much appreciated.

I would keep the driver facing the way it is For optimum cooling. and add another baffle in front of the driver to lengthen the line of the horn. then ask pretty please if somebody could model it in hornresponse. Looks like a reflex loaded rear chamber horn.

well i'm still struggling to learn Hornresp so i'm not much help to you there.
minor point a scoop would have the driver mounted on the exterior baffle so that both front and rear radiation are used a la JBL 4530.
in your case being partly built i would try dividing the "throat chamber" with another panel (from the bottom to approx 2 inches from top that should increase path length)

Just done a quick test outside WOW is the word that fits best.
A good 30M away you can feel the bass in your chest. it's so good even the plants in my back yard were dancing to the beat. I kid you not.. I done a video. maybe I can upload it on youtube and post the link here? The following is what I done.
1.. Cut a panel to fit at the front so you can't see the driver at all, sounded like it was under water.

2..took off 2" off the same front panel, sounded better, but I could hear that the driver was working to hard.

3..took of another 3" (total 5") now we're talking. the driver is singing those low notes and throwing it really far.

4.. Cut the front panel in 2 half with a 5" port in the middle. impossible to put your ears to close. sounds really good.

I will keep tweaking till I get it right. I don't have any way to measure the output.
so at best I will play it against 2 x sccop, see what happens.thats the idea, one cab that can outplay or keep up with 2.
will get measurement and a sketch done by the weekend. you're all welcome to build it/test it/tweak it do as you like. all I ask is that you call it the Ouzzie Hybrid scoop.

I have so many other sub designs in my head and on my PC. Some are variants of other existing cabs, others are all fresh my own ideas. Not been very good on the technical side, I would like help from other members who can to that for me. any takers? all the plans are FREE

i'd really like to see pic's of these changes! i gather that your creating a vent but i'm not quite sure.
did you try the suggestion that top shelf and i mentioned and if so what where the effects(might help me on my Hornresp learning curve)

sorry i thought this was still in a development phase because of the pic you posted earlier in the thread.
if you get a panel in where i was suggesting (now that it's glued and screwed) i have an unfinished "ship in a bottle" project you might be interested in 😀

awesome!!!
did you manage to get another panel in there?

I followed your idea and did exactly that. I had to do it in 2 pieces but it worked.
We tried all different combination .. mounting the driver back to front and visa versa. it sounded much better with the driver with cone facing the front like a normal scoops.
we also used various panel to try and tune the front part, but this was a waste of time trying to do this by ear. overall the cab sounded very very good indeed.

My objective was to build a cab that can keep up or outplay 2 x. I have achieved my goals. My only concern is that there were dead spots certain part of the hall. I need to some proper technical advise. anyone?

It's hard to overcome nulls, try distributed bass ( multiple cabs different spots). But that would entail more cabs than I think you're willing to build.
Try the home theatre trick, put the sub where you want the bass to be the strongest then play a typical track you would use and move about the room and find where the bass is the strongest. That is the best spot to have your sub to play.
