Any chance one of you has some scrapped-out consumer-elex stuff in your junkbox ?
I need just a plain-jane cheapy ALPS 12mm 10KB audio-taper 10kohm pot.
Please don't shudder in horror....I promise not to use it for a classy audio project! 😀
I actually need it for my other hobby....ham-radio.
I've got a cherry late-90's Icom rig...an IC-736....that was on a shelf that's been fine for 20 years....but decided recently to collapse!
Yup.....the radio fell....3 feet....and hit on its face.
Cracked the little phenolic wafer that makes up the back-side of the AF-gain pot. That wafer is what the resistive-track is printed on, and it's open-ckt now between the two ends.
Of course, the -shafts- are custom to this application, plus it's a dual-pot to boot, with a -linear- front-section for the squelch.....so there's ZERO chance I'll ever find one "on the shelf" anywhere.
And Icom apparently believes that 'support' means you run out of parts for $1800 radios about 3 years after selling them....huh...
But us DIY-Audio guys don't let ourselves get stopped by little things like that! 😀
No sir.....this will be -easy- to fix if I can just get another Alps 10K audio-taper pot of the same RK124 series....and simply swap its phenolic-wafer onto my pot.
PS: either a single or dual pot will work fine....as long as, if it's a dual, the rear-section is 10k audio-taper "10KB".
PPS; mine's typical PCB-mount....with pins sticking straight out radially...but I can probably 'adapt', if you have the right wafer with the wrong terminations.

PS; this is probably a long-shot here....but I'm also hunting for an Alps panel-encoder....EC24B50B.....that's a 24mm diameter series that they also don't make any more. Looks exactly like the usual 24mm pot with a 'goldish' metal can back....but has encoder track printed inside, instead of a pot-track. Mine's still functional electrically, but the shaft/bearing is now very rough....doesn't spin right.

far as I can tell, this series of pots isn't made any longer.

I feel for you man, Icom in Australia are absolutely hopeless for parts. I think they employ family members.
I had a look through my pots box and didnt find anything suitable for you. I'll have a look around some junked gear at work for you next week.
They shipped me some surface mount FETs for a receiver front end neatly wrapped in facial tissues and heat sealed in normal PE plastic bags. I rejected them as insufficiently protected and the second batch came the same way with an additional layer of bubble wrap. After a heated conversation with the service manager about basic electrostatic procedures and competence of staff we eventually got a section cut off a reel with the FETs inside. I would not accept anything else because it would have been handled incorrectly. I'm amazed they are still in business.
My only suggestion is look for some junked handheld radios or car stereos of similar vintage.
Icom make great radios but service is as good as nonexistent, this is a problem when the parts used inside are usually quite cheap.
For that reason I no longer buy Icom.

yup....car-stereo is one of the best potential sources.
I scrapped out a '91 Ford FM/cassette a few days ago, and got all excited when I saw the same white-plastic Alps bodies down inside....but after extraction, I discovered that every pot in it is a 100K -linear-.
Turns out this radio does all the volume/tone inside a chip....which does a log. volume scale using a lin 0-5vdc input.
sigh.... 😡
But maybe the next one will have the right 10K audio-taper in it.
Or someone here will find one in their junkbox. 🙂
