I've built a few amplifier kits and each time some electrical insulating pads were included (e.g. Sil-Pad) that I assume are made from silicone. Now I need to buy some that fit TO-247 packages and I really don't know what material is preferred and where to get it.
Can someone give me some perspective on preferring Sil-Pad material and sources?

Target thermal conductivity?
Is it meant to insulate?
Will it ever be reworked?
Are the surfaces flat?
As always better parameters cost money

+1 for 1500ST. The SilPad 400 and 800 are pretty good as well just not quite as thermally conductive as the 1500ST. The only drawback of the 1500ST is that it's one-time use only. If you take the thermal interface apart, you're supposed to replace it.

To clarify, the material should be electrically insulating, and thermally conductive. Use is for amplifier output devices, typically.
Is the 1500st available in pre-cut "pads" or only in sheet?
What is a preferred source for it in the US?
