I have a single 12" Adire audio Brahama DVC running at 2 ohms (4 ohms per coil) that is being powered by a Kicker ZX 500.1, tied to a Boss 20 Farad Cap, 4 gauge wires all around (not sure). "I can provide some pictures if needed"
Unfortunately, my amp shuts off when I play my music a little bit loud or when it plays a song that is too bass heavy. At the moment I have my gains dialed in a notch up from zero, on all levels, because its the only way I am able to listen to music with out my amp shutting off. I noticed that when I would have the volume set to a certain level (Lightly Loud) the protect light would lightly flash and not shut off, but when I increased the volume it would flash solid red and go into protect mode when the bass hit.
Before the ZX 500.1, I was running a Crossfire BMF 600D which was pounding my subs, flexing my windows a bit, and would hardly ever shut off. It would only shut off when I would be playing my music loud for a Looong time. I wanted to upgrade to a mono amp because of the better performance of bass reproduction.
I have never encountered this problem before with any other amp running this same wire setup. Does anybody have an idea of what can be causing this amp to shut off ? I am begging Ya'll for some help. This wasn't happening before with a different amp ! I am a bass head/freak that needs loud music at all times.

Your kicker amp only has an RMS Power Rating:
4 ohms: 250 watts x 1 chan.
2 ohms: 500 watts x 1 chan.
Your sub can handle up to 1600 watts, depending what size box it's in...According to their website... http://www.adireaudio.com/Files/BrahmaPowerHandling.pdf
Your amp is pushing it's max power and protecting itself.
That sub should have "IMO" at least a 1000 or better, 2000 watt rms amp so the amp doesn't have to work so hard.
I ran into the same problem with a Soundqubed Q1-1200D. Very disapointed with it pushing a pioneer 10 two 4 ohm voice coils rated for 800rms and it could take way more than the Soundqubed could put out. I was always making the clip light come on.

Get a bigger amp or get a smaller power handling sub for the Kicker.

Gentleman ! Thank you for replying and trying to assist me with this issue. I greatly appreciate it. Unfortunately, its cold as balls in New England and there is enough snow here to share with Africa. So any suggestion that anyone offers me would probably have to wait until March to get executed. If am lucky !
To: 90sCaraudio - I completely understand what you are saying and I do agree with you that my amp does need to be upgraded with something more suited. What I don't understand is why my Crossfire BMF 600D would bump with no problems and hardly ever shut off.
"My plan of action" - I am going to remove my cap and going to add a spare battery to the system. Hopefully this helps. I really don't want to pay 350 to 500 for a 2000watt mono bass amp, but will if i have to ! What do you suggest ? BTW - I have my subs in a 2.0 FT^3 Box TUNED @ 32Hz SLOT-VENTED.😎
To: Perry Babin - In this case (considering it doesn't shut off) the BMF600D is performing significantly better then my ZX500.1 and I have gone back to it. From my experience, Kicker amps put in work in the car audio/sound world and I know that a Mono amp is the way to go for Bass. The BMF is working for me at the moment, but it doesn't reproduce the same tone quality of the kicker ZX500.1. Before the ZX amp would shut off, I can tell you that for the 5 to 10 seconds that music was playing, the sound quality in the bass was great. Deep and able to reproduce more bass at different Hz.
I am going to try and find a time in the day that isn't to cold for me to work on this. I will be updating this thread as I go. Others, please feel free to chime with any other suggestions that you may have. I greatly appreciate at them.
Thanks guys,

The difference in sound may be the bass boost frequency.
Have you checked the DC voltage with the probes directly on the amp's terminal block screws? You may have a bad connection, bad fuse/holder or some other problem causing the voltage to drop.

Gonna be honest,
For this situation probably a bad ground, try adding another ground cable to the amp or try a thicker one.
