Hi

I just bought the Sony SA-WM 500 last week and I am having a few problems getting it to work using the line in connection.
If I connect the sub using the line in and the subwoofer out on the amp, there doesnt seem to be any output coming from the sub. I then set all speakers to small and subwoofer on on the AMP. I then turned the crossover all te way up on the sub.Ther dvd is connected via a optical cable and when playing a cd there is output on the various sound modes like "theather, hall and 2 channel" but when playing a dvd there doesnt seem to be any sound from the sub ie.DD and DTS. So I then tried connecting using the speaker inputs. Connected the left and right to the corresponding mains and set them to large, subwoofer off. That works fine but I would like to get the line in to work because I have heard that its better and it also relieves your mains from trying to reproduce LF.

What am I doing wrong?.Please help.
The amp is a HK 300 RDS.The crossover point is set to 100hz when subwoofer is set to on.

Thanks

LFE setting? First go through every menu item on your receiver with manual in hand and check all the settings. Some receivers have a LFE option of subwoofer, mains or both.....make sure it's on subwoofer as it could be set on mains which would send nothing to the sub.

Check the subwoofer manual to see which line in you use. For mono signal some require it on the left or right RCA connector.

Test the inputs by using a preout for main or tape out - turn the volume on the sub right down first and gradually turn the volume up after the movie is playing. It works with a CD so that should be OK.

I can't see anything in the DVD player that should effect it but check the menus anyway.

Sounds like a setting in the receiver.

Hi

The dvd is connected via optical cable and this is selected correctly as it plays cds fine.I also double checked the setting on the amp. All speakers set to small and subwoofer on.
I know the subwoofer out put on the amp works and its connected to the correct line in on the sub because when playing a cd in 2 channel stereo and theater mode it works and the sub plays fine . Is only when playing dvds , there is some output but its very faint.
Ill got through all that you have suggested again and see if i come right .
Thanks

If dont get this right. I have it connected using the speaker inputs wich works fine but somehow i feel its clashing with my mains .Any suggestions.

Has to be a setting in the receiver to do with LFE. Menu items such as:
Subwoofer - Yes
SWFR level - dB (test tone used)
Bass out mode - Sub, Main, Both
LFE level - dB
Bass xo - Hz
Equalizer settings

Other than those I have no idea?
