Hi all,
I have a pair of twenty something year old Heybrook HB2 speakers. The mid/bass driver in each is blown so I was looking at buying new drivers for them myself as parts for speakers of this age are rare and expensive. What do I need to take into consideration when buying new drivers? Or do you think it would be easier to just strip out everything inside the box and get a completely new set of internals?
Thanks for the help!

The crossover on my Heybrook's was wired incorrectly -- so before repairing and ordering some new drivers you might want to pull out the XO, trace it out to make sure it's correct.
You can work backwards from the internal dimensions and port to come up with an optimal driver -- I also blew the drivers and replaced with some RS (not the best choice, but close enough for government work.)

Hi
if you want to fix them, please do it correctly and get orginal drivers for replacement
They are VIFA M21 WG. You can get these at puresound http://www.puresound.info/
and maybe from Winslow Audio - both in the UK.

edit: I forgot, if only the surrounds are blown, you can try to fix that yourselfs for pretty cheap.

@ jackinnj: I'm working on the assumption that the crossovers are fine due to the fact that they worked before I blew the drivers! There are no obvious signs of damage on them.
@ Lovechild: How can I tell if it's just the surrounds that are blow.
You may be able to tell that I'm new to this!

Not working, I'm not sure what the actual problem is though. The tweeter on each speaker works fine though.
When you bypass the XO and run the speakers wires directly to the drivers in question, you get no sound at all? Make sure it is an open or short circuit with your multimeter.

Hi!
Have you found any new drivers to your HB2s? I'm in the same situation as you. Besides, the has HB2 has a special not so common design on its X-over, it is not connected incorrectly! as so many believe.

Below is what Wilmslow Audio [ well known british speaker shop ] recommend for replacements . The vifa driver is the exact driver used in the HB1 as detailed above lovechild , not sure about the HB2 , but it would seem so .
Heybrook HB1, HB2, HB3
Treble - use Vifa D27TG or Scanspeak D2606 922000
Bass - use Vifa M21WG or Vifa P21WO
Foam griles can be replaced with purpose built cloth cover wooden grille frames.

The HB2 used a plastic-coned Audax bass-mid, totally different from the Vifa paper-coned unit in the HB1. Direct replacements haven't been available for years, I'm afraid.
What's the bass cutout, Lars? It's a reflex 6.5" polycone, so we ought to be able to find something similar.Hi!

I'm thinking the SEAS U18 or the Peerless 830874, which are both low inductance designs which will like the third order bass filter, and both quite flat on frequency response. Both about 145mm cutout.
