Hi guys, completely new to car audio but no stranger to DIY home audio.

Just purchased a 2012 Honday Odyssey EX-L and being spoiled with home audio, I like to upgrade the audio system in the car. First thing I want to do is replace speakers and subwoofer.

So what speakers would you suggest for this vehicle? I am hoping something that is easy to install and work with the stock CD/Audio system (for now).

Thanks

What is the current stock sytem? Factory amp, 2-way components, amplified subwoofer, amp what taste of music do you have? Having been spoiled by home audio it wiill be almost necessary to have or use an amplifier in order to come even close to home audio. Due to fact that better quality are for the most part inefficient. Does the van come with video? And are you more concered with audio playback or cinema playback?

Hey amc32, hoping i got all your questions answer.

1) factory system (oem amp, sub, speakers, etc.) no RES or NAV
2) listen to mostly pop/rock
3) only want audio ugprade, no video

quick question. if upgrading only speakers, would i expect significant improvement in sound quality? how good is the OEM head unit? does it have enough juice to drive aftermarket speakers?

thanks

Sorry for the late reply, the oem system may have enough power for aftermarket speakers in they are amplified. If we are only talking about upgrading and replacing speaker, and the oem system has an external oem amplifier "not simply powered by the head unit" I would suggest going with marketed car audio speakers rather than marketed home audio speakers. Though the two markets do overlap, marketed home audio speakers have many varibles that need to be overcome in order to be used successfully in a automobile. Since my suggestion was marketed car audio speakers allow me to also suggest that you stick with the better car audio companies that are in your budget range. Infinity, Polk Audio, Boston Acoustic, ADS and Focal just to name a few. Once you begin your search, starting with these companies, I'm sure you will also find other companies. I make no formal endorsment BUT if I had to make a suggested selection for you based on your taste of music "PoP/Rock" I would suggest DSL DLS - Products. The constuction of the mid is suited better for pop/rock music. You should hear a significant improvement. As far as the quality of the oem head unit I'm not sure, but modern oem head units have made major improvements. In review: If the oem system has an external oem amplifier powering all the speakers, then go big and upgrade them. If oem head unit is the amplified source for all the speakers, then head down to walmart and pick up some pioneer or sony speakers. Hope I helped more than I have confused......

thanks. i am leaning towards Polk and Infinity speakers since they have very good reviews and budget friendly.

Question: where's a good place to buy car audio speakers? I've heard Crutchfield but their prices are very HIGH compared to Amazon for example. However, Crutfield does come with adapters so that make things easier to install but TWICE the price?

Are there other places that sell adapters cheaply so I can buy speakers from Amazon and get adapters elsewhere?

Hi hi,
I'm new to this site, and I do have 2012 Odyssey.....
I have upgraded all my speakers & adding some (total 11 speakers as now, will add two more on the seat belt pillars) and still using OEM stock deck (Panasonic made).
Here is my post in odyclub.com My 2012 LX - Accessories on going Weekend projects w/Pics - Page 8
And yes, the Amazon speakers are alot cheaper than CF.
