I really want to watch a tv series, Charlie Jade, but it's no longer on streaming services and Amazon only has a dvd set that's region 2/PAL.
I was thinking I could hook up a usb dvd drive to a computer, rip it, and use some kind of conversion software, and copy to a usb stick? Then I could play it on my TV through a usb stick.
Or maybe somehow hook up the usb drive up directly to a roku or lg tv?
I really know very little about this stuff.

I went through this once when I bought an anime for the kids…didn’t realize it was burnt for a different zone…Japan market I think.
I used some software on my old HP laptop running Vista that was able to decipher the disc…I think it might have been Foobar (might have been another App)?
Didn’t bother trying to rip it to any kind of media. Just mirrored the laptop screen on the TV through a HDMI cable.
Edit: I think it was VLC freeware.

About 23 episodes are free on dailymotion:

Thanks!!! I've never heard of dailymotion, but it seems to be reputable. I cant tell you how excited I am.
I'm having stuttering/skips/buffering issues. Using their app is better, but still has issues. I'll have to try downloading the videos. Even with these issues, I'm just thrilled to have any access at all to the series.

I have no problems here in the Midwest on fiber, so probably it's not their site.
This is a really good series? I've never heard of it before.

I bought a dedicated DVD player and hacked it for Region 2 - it was a series actions through the remote. Trouble is, it is not simple to switch back and forth so I still have the old yamaha which plays music fine but can only be used for DVDs from the UK. ( or other Region 2 ) - if you are interested in this, PM me and I can see if I can track down the "how to"
better yet - here is google's answer: https://www.wisebread.com/make-your-dvd-player-region-free-in-seconds
I have a yamaha and not sure it was the same process but along the same vein.

It's very good, if you like sci-fi. I haven't seen it in years, but from what I recall, it's slow to get started. I'm watching the 1st episode now, and acting/writing seems a little lower quality than what I remember. But the visuals are fantastic, I love the basic premise, and it's a shame it's only available at lower resolution.I have no problems here in the Midwest on fiber, so probably it's not their site.
