Both Falcon and Willslow recommend the VifaD27TG-35-6 as a KEF T-27 substitue on their website.

Vifa D27TG-35-06
The KEF T-27 is getting too expensive for DIY project while I can get the Vifa in the US at reasonable cost. How good is this Vifa.
I understand that it is not identical to the KEF electrically and will require crossover update. With the right simulation program such as Jeff Bagby's PCD, the crossover update should not be too difficult.

Hi keilau.
Both the mentioned tweeters are goo alternatives.
I have toasted quite a few T27s in my younger days, putting ls3/5 in transmission line and other fun projects. The Vifas are more durable and cheap for what you get and they are abundant.
I have Vifa D26tg-05 that has lasted 22 years, without being particularly carefull with them. Samesame.

The D27TG is/was* good enough for ATC.
Hi-Fi › ATC SCM20SL
*After threatening to do so for 20 years ATC now make their own tweeters.

I've been using the Danish version for the last few years; they have a certain raspiness to them, which is not bad, but there.

I could find the xo design if interested.

According to Falcon Acoustics the Vifa D27TG-35-06 is still being made in Denmark.
Vifa Speakers, Free UK Delivery, full Drive Unit range
That said googling images it seems most sold in North America are marked "Designed in Denmark" while ones sold in Europe tend to be marked "Made in Denmark". Although with such a long lasting product I can not vouch for the age of the pictures.
Probably being made both in China and Denmark.
May be a danish member here knows more?

Which Canadian do I know?
I'm just thinking that somebody (not necessarily you) in Denmark might know if Vifa still produces some drivers in Denmark. It's not really worth it for me to travel there to find out. ;-)

I'm quite certain that Copenhagen in particular and Denmark at large are well worth a visit but not if the only purpose is to find out if a £25 tweeter is still being made there.
So I shall ask nicely: Do you, dear snup, know anything regarding the continued manufacture of some Vifa drivers in your home country?
And one more question: Tuborg or Carlsberg? ;-)

Ive seen some recent manufactured ones on the shelves down the street. I dont know if theyre off work for the weekend or planning a holiday.
Elephant, thanks.

You can find all your answer about Vifa here.
Peerless - Tymphany is the Only Authentic Manufacturer of Peerless Drivers | Tymphany
Vifa, also founded in Denmark, merged with Peerless in 2000 to form Danish Sound Technology (DST). In 2005 Tymphany acquired Danish Sound Technology (DST) along with the original Peerless, Vifa, and Scan-Speak brands, engineering, products, and technology.
Tymphany used to headquarter in Hong Kong, but may have moved the HQ to China to be close to the manufacturing facility. If you buy Peerless, or Vifa, or Scan-Speak, that's where it comes from.
A Norwegian brand, Seas, was acquired by a Singapore/Canadian company named Sonavox Group. They also moved the manufacturing to China.
And of course, there are always "make in Denmark" NOS from some of the retailers or Ebayers.
Can we go back to my original question now?
Keilau, I need to correct you. Scan Speak use to be owned by Tymphany, but drivers have always been developed and manufactures in Videbaek in a small town in the westpart of Denmark. They do by the way manfacture many of the old Vifa and some Peerless drivers in Denmark again, but they will all have a Scan Speak logo/label on them.
Hi,
I can't find FA recommending it as a T27 alternative.
It certainly isn't a drop-in replacement and I find WA's
recommendation hard to fathom, it isn't the same size.
The 108mm diameter is unusually large for a 19mm tweeter.
For DIY the Celestion HF2000 equivalent is much closer to a T27 :

94mm though, most 1" domes are 100mm.
rgds, sreten.

Hylle, thank you for the update.
I do not have any inside scope about Tymphany or ScanSpeak. I just did a direct quote from the Tymphany website. According to Tymphany, they now own the ScanSpeak brand. Is it true or not true? What is the relationship of the company in Videbaek to Tymphany?
I am quite an enthusiast for trying different tweeters:
Here I tried a Visaton DT94-8 which is a polycarbonate or mylar 20mm dome in the spirit of the 104mm KEF T27 19mm dome and Celestion HF2000 22mm dome.
I happen to have the Celestion HF2000 in my Ditton 44's. Mylar tends to be bright at the top, requiring a zobel IMO, but has quite good detail. Soft domes tend to spit and sizzle a bit, whereas plastic domes are quite laid back.
A lot of manufacturers also fitted the plastic Isophon KK8 back in the day:
This had a lump of wadding behind the dome which probably tamed the bright top end. An alternative is possibly the Tymphany D19TD 19mm dome.
Tymphany D19TD-05 3/4" Poly Dome Tweeter
With replacement tweeters, you might look for similar sound levels and the same size mounting plate for an easy fix. But, make no mistake, if you change the dome material, you get an entirely different sound. But I would say it's not good to think any of these tweeters were perfect, they just had different strengths and weaknesses.
An externally hosted image should be here but it was not working when we last tested it.
