Anyone try Huw's Energy Pro 22 tweeter replacement?

Are they inverted domes? That to me is what made the EPI tweeters so good. Himan sells some of those. Inverted domes are rare.
I always get a bit suspicious when a tweeter comes with a metal grill.
You are local. I may have some (slightly smaller) Foster inverted domes that are quite good if you want something to play with.

Hi Dave ... glad to hear from you! Yes they are inverted. Huw's tweeters all have grills I think. Thanks for the offer of the tweeters. I may have to come visit.
Hey there van isle,
here are some measurements done on the human 002 (they are all the same tweeter, different faceplates)https://web.archive.org/web/20150215004629/http://www.audioheuristics.org:80/measurements/Testing/Human 002 tweeter/human_speakers_pro_002_tweeter.htm
Years ago I had Huw make up some to fit the burhoe blues I have (Burhoe acoustics had the same EPI tweeter Dave referenced) and they don’t hold a candle to the originals. If used from 9k on up as super tweeters they sound best (and even then they don’t have any oomph). That dip they have from 5k on up makes them too hot between 2k to 5k.…… Not worth the money IMHO.
They ended up crossed@9k in my epi/genesis/burhoe franken speakers. Only to be replaced by some fostex ribbons that are much better and way cheaper on closeout.

That's funny you dug up those old measurements by MarkK. Those were done on my tweeters, they were the HUMAN Pro002 I think. Likely the same dome and motor as the tweeters you are talking about, just with a different mounting plate.
The tweeters have very good performance in terms of distortion, energy storage, and so on even in this day and age. The main problem is the odd frequency response with the dip above 5kHz. But this is getting up there in frequency and might not be too offensive. They might sound a little dull to some ears, but maybe that was how the original design intended? It would take some careful crossover work to do it right. It is not something that you should drop into any old speaker and expect magic...

Its a LOT dull compared to the originals, I tried many different configurations to make it sound right but in the end they were relegated to the parts bin.
edit; I recall the cymbal was its main problem

hey are inverted
Then i expect worth trying. But mountainman & Charlie have real world experience.

Looking at Mark’s measurements I guess you could use the tweeter as sorta a filler driver between 1.8- 5k…add an inductor to it at about 5k and then sub in a ribbon for the top end.
Thanks. Unfortunately NF is not representative for any thing above some 900 Hz for a 8" midwoofer.
I contacted HUW a couple of years ago regarding using his tweeters in my Energy 22 Ref Cons. He told me to hang on as he was working on it. Since then I see he has a replacement. I did not hear back from him so I replaced my blown tweeters with Audax two34's from Solen. They fit the holes and to my untrained ears they sound fine.I would be interested to hear if anyone else that knows how to tweak these has gone this route.

If the audax two34 works thats what i’d use……..basically the same price and a much better tweeter than the Human. (I’ve used both)
Another bonus, audax has replaceable diaphragms, Human tweets do not……they are glued together.

I agree with Bob and Charlie. I rebuilt a pair of model 210 several years back, and they are ok for background kind of listening, but I find them dull, and boring like a slice of plain white bread. I have 3 different systems with cd topends, and 40 years of drumming on my eardrums, so you may like them more than I do, if you want a very laid back sound with not a lot of detail. Other people that have heard them thought that they sounded very nice, but for me they have been relegated to dust collectors. Glenn.
Is this the same speaker?- another option
