@ YSDR & Inspector Gadget,

Why post such comments which have nothing to do with the product, it helps nobody.
FYI; It seems that "Nilai" stems from the name of the location where the production is situated.
Hypex is proud of their production location and factory, this way they show their appreciation.
Sounds more respectable than your comments.

Anyway, wish you the best.

I agree Rob,

It’s the low SNR that turns me off this forum sometimes. Over at that other forum there is a big long thread on this amp; about 220 comments so far; and even participation from a Hypex representative.

From Hypex:
“the meaning of Nilai is as follows. It is Malay and stands for: Worth & Value
Our factory is located in Malaysia“

We live in a culturally and linguistically diverse era; and globalisation is part of business.

I don’t think these jokes are funny; other people may feel that it’s is Anglocentric or misunderstand it’s being somewhat racist.

Perhaps there could be a quick “Ignore member” feature at the bottom right, next to Like, to quickly shut down the noise and increase the SNR of this forum.

Hi Lewinski,
Yes, i did. But it is only my experience and opinion, somebody else can/will have a different experience.
I could only compare it (no ABX) directly with Hypex ucd 400 HXR/HG that i have been enjoying for about 13 years.
The ucd sounds a little warmer (more like tubes) and has a somewhat bigger soundstage and needs to warm up everytime again during about 1 hour, but;
The Nilai ( 2 channel version) straight away sounds so much cleaner and from the start it sounds just right, i did not feel the need for a warm-up or burn in.
The combination of the Nilai with my speakers (DIY Audax/ B&G, 3 way) makes me remind my (former) direct coupled electrostatics.
It is clean, non analytical, fast, powerful, also very tender, dry deep extremely controlled bass, the bass can be very delicate but also roar.
I never (even with my ELS) could listen longer than a couple of hours, but with the Nilai i for the first time experienced listening sessions longer than 5 hours.
If i would compare to well known commercial products, i would say Avalon speakers/ MIT cabling and Spectral electronics, i feel it is that good.

Enjoy the music,
Rob.

Thanks for the answers.
I run UcD400HG on midbass, AB KT88 on midrange, 45 SET on tweeters. Sounds like replacing UcD with a newer amp for midbass wouldn't introduce much difference. I guess the question for me is around replacing the KT88 amp with Nilai, 1ET400, or one of the cheaper GaN amps. Too bad I can't listen to them around here.

The Nilai for me is the first affordable amplifier which makes it easy to listen for hours at a time.
I wrote about the difference between Ucd and Milai, but i was not pleased with my tube amp either.
I also have used Zap pulse class D for a period of two years, but i could not get used to the sound, in fact the Ucd sounds better to me.
And i even preferred the Ucd above the tube (Miracle ITA 45) amp, it sounded musical but too coloured.
At that time there only was one i really preferred and that was Spectral, but i could not afford it.
This does not mean i know all the brands. But i heard some and the favourite was Spectral.
Fortunately at present there are Purifi and Hypex Nilai, which i guess come very close.

It is good affordable for you, but how about the rest of the diy community? Hypex oem products cost only a fraction(25 to 35%) of the normal available products. So far Hypex cares for the diy community.

And about the Nilal500 it is a great amp if you can afford it. I like the topping la90 more.
