Hyundai L70S 17" is usable

Hi there,

Since monitor prices are quite high and the price difference between 15" and 17" is almost non-existant I finally decided for a Hyundai L70S ImageQuest 17" Monitor. It was quite easy to strip and the only read difficulty was to remove the outer plastic case. I eventually used a knive all along the edge of the front and back plastic pices and they separated. After that it was an easy process just dismanteling all the various components.

The lcd screen itself is actually a Samsung (sorry I don't have the details right now). There is only one board attached on the horizontal axis. There is also a very good connector/cable between the panel and the driver board. This makes it very easy to move and put back together again.

Overall its very easy to dismantle and the specification for this screen are quite good. The screen is to big for my ohp but I figured that even if I can currently only use 15" of it's size it will still offer better resolution then a normal 15" xga panel.

I will eventually source a larger fresnel so that I can use the full 1280*1024 resolution.

I can post pictures of the dismantled screen if somebody wants them.

One question: After dismantling the screen I found several layers of transparent sheets. I guess its for the backlight. I tested the screen without them and I got a picture on the wall. The question is should I use any of the plastic sheets to improve picture?

if you can project sxga res then you can get full HD Wide screen

can you get sxga 15" lcds

I have the pictures in my digital camera but I had some problems with my computer and I therefore have to fix it and then reinstalling the camera drivers.

sorry guys. In my quest to make the projector work with the large fresnels from diy labs I forgot to post pictures. I am now on vacation away from home so I will not be able to for the next 3 weeks. I will post when I'm back.

I just bought a L70S too and I was wondering if you can post the dismantling pictures when you get back from your vacation. I am interested in how you cut the plastic and avoiding the flat cables inside.
