Hi everyone

Any guesses on what I just bought for $2.00?

I will find out next week but based on a brief auction house inspection (before bidding online)

I thought the cabs might be loaded with something like Philips drivers e.g. AD12202

DCR = 11.2 ohms
(and other speaker DCR = 11.3 ohms)

Enclosure height was 835mm
( 32 inch )

Unsealed box (Rear was wooden slats instead of a solid panel)

Small 4 pin female connector on each

The slotted back is characteristic of the Wharfedale Distributed Port (DP) enclosure designed to suit their RS/12/DD and Super 12/RS/DD full range drivers.

These drivers are each rated "12 to 15 ohm". I own examples of each that were manufactured in 1967/9.

Your enclosure height of 32" would be in accord with the DP enclosure volume of 3 cu ft. In addition the DP enclosure featured exactly the same number of slots (10) as is shown in your photographs.

That's my guess. I look forward to discovering what's actually in there! 😎

I didn't make it clear that the DP enclosure I mentioned above is a DIY design, designated R3 in the 1965 Wharfedale Cabinet Construction Sheet.

The slotted back was a Wharfedale innovation, although it's possible someone may have applied it to another manufacturer's 12" full range driver.

The slotted back was said to reduce resonance and improve the reproduction of speech, and that it was possible to place the cabinet within an inch of the wall "without upsetting the performance".

These cabinets are indeed DIY, and very well made....note the offset driver cutout on one, but not the other, also, one cut out is slightly larger than the other...I did the same thing, slightly off center left to right, so I built the second enclosure off set in mirror image.
