Ideas for amp case on the cheap??

Use an old scrap/junk amp body
Or if it matches, a double height car radio body.
Look in car junk yards, and yard sales.
And why not a mini computer body or old VCR, save it from land fill.
Old computer cases are easy to get, and plenty roomy for an amp of decent output.
You even have plenty of places to put fans and so on.

When I first started building projects I would go to local thrift stores and buy old equipment for a few dollars to reuse the cases.

Around me it was St. Vincent DePaul and Red, White and Blue thrift...as well as Goodwill.

I still have one that I used for my DIY MiniDSP that I put two raw 2X4 boards into.

It was some kind of TV video call box I gutted and just used aluminum to make a new rear panel for my connections. I did it with hand tools. I used little black spray paint to match the panel to the case.

Nothing beautiful...it did the job.

Since then I mostly build from scratch now using wood and aluminum I get from the scrap barn at a local metal yard.

There’s always cigar boxes too.

I've made several chassis from sheet aluminum bought at a scrapyard. As long as you get a flat sheet, you can sand it and paint it. It's easy to cut with a hacksaw or a mitre saw or table saw with a non-ferrous metal cutting blade.

Hammond is a nice option if you want something decent (better looking than that Amazon chassis) that isn't over-the-top expensive. Mouser carries Hammond. I think DigiKey does too.

You can also get far with ModuShop, though then you'll push a bit higher in price.

here is my quick and dirty power supply case using MDF and metal sheets, see photos. eventual shielding for an amp would have to be made with metal foil on the MDF. metal sheets in my case are be a bit thin and weak.

At the diy store, for the price, I find the galaxy 2u difficult to ignore. The 3 or 4 pack is a good savings. OK, more money than you want to spend but it will look like a proper piece of audio equipment. 1U a little cheaper if you can handle the lower height.🙂
