JBL 4343 Cabinet Project

My name is Matt, and I’m new to the community. I am a passionate admirer of JBL, especially the 4343 and 4345 models. I am reaching out to ask for your help so that I can try to fulfill a big dream: building a 4343 and finally having a speaker like this.

Unfortunately, when I was a child, my father couldn’t afford such a wonderful speaker. Sadly, he is no longer with us, but I promised him that I would make one. This way, whenever I sit down to listen to music, I can feel his presence even more strongly by my side.

I would be deeply grateful if anyone could help me achieve this dream by sharing the cabinet designs and measurements. Therefore, I would like to respectfully request, if possible, the drawings and dimensions of the wooden cabinet for the JBL 4343.

I have always admired these incredible speakers but never had the financial means to own an original. However, I decided to pursue my dream and dedicate myself to building one, bringing a little joy and the satisfaction of having such a speaker in my home.

I sincerely thank you in advance for your attention and support. I would be immensely grateful for the opportunity to connect with someone who could help me with this project.

Once again, thank you very much.

Best regards,
Matt

Hello Matt

I built a pair of 4344's years ago. Still have them. If I were you I would check out Lansing Heritage as previously mentioned. I would also look into cloning the 4344 Mk 2. Reason being scarcity of available drivers. The 2121 and 2122 used in the 4343 and 4344 are difficult to find compared too the 2123 used in the Mk2. The other issue is the tapped inductors used by JBL. There are alternative crossovers that were developed by a member 4313B that have identical voltage drives that match the original networks.

Rob 🙂

Good Afternoon, friends. Thank you very much for all the considerations. I would like to express my gratitude to Robh3606, maximax77, and badman. Thank you for taking the time to want to help me. I will respond to all of you in the same way:

  1. First, I cannot access the Lansing Heritage users to send private messages to the main individuals involved in the projects. I have searched the entire site, but surprisingly, although there are many photos and discussions, I have not been able to find the cabinet designs with exact measurements so that I can reproduce and build my own speaker box. I cannot directly contact the key users of the site, and they do not allow new members. Only members can contact each other. If any of you have access and can send messages, please let me know so I can indicate some users who might really have the designs.
  2. Regarding the main drivers, I have been purchasing them over many years. I still haven't managed to get a crossover design or the original crossover, but I believe I can find someone to guide me or someone selling an old crossover as well.
  3. If you manage to obtain the designs for these cabinets, could you kindly send them to me so I can analyze them and start this great project? My email is matheus.soares@gmail.com or mattbh@live.com.
Thank you all, and as I have been digging through everything I can for many years, I thought it best to seek help from friends who might have been through the same situation.

Thank you!

A couple important threads for you or anyone else, ( located over at LHF for the diy 4344 builder ) ;

DIY JBL 4344 project

4344

Detailed cabinet measurements are found in the second link ( though page 3 is missing ).

Port locations have been changed from the original 4344 location ( for aesthetic reasons >> looks better to these eyes! ).

4343 plans don't exist at this level ( I'm quite sure of that ).

@EarlK, would you mind trying to get in touch with LHF members Tom Loizeaux, Giskard, Ian Mackenzie, Ayaboh and Guido, please? I tried to register, but I don’t know what happened; LHF is still closed for new user registrations.

do you know how can I register at LHF ? I do not understant why they closed new subscriptions to new members .

Track down Wardsweb ( over at AudioKarma where you have a duplicate thread to this one ) and then ask him for the special favour of registration at LHF ( he's in charge of the bits that make that website work ).

🙂

PS; I'll give it a day or so, to see if Wardsweb will grant you access ( before sending the files ).
