JBL 4425

Greetings,

I have a dilemma with one of my JBL 4425's. The dilemma is that the woofer does not produce sound and the horn produces sound at a lower level than normal. I took it to the shop that refoamed them days before and they told me that the connection wire to the cone went bad and to fix it will $70. Not happy about that, but what puzzles me is that it does not explain the low output of the horn. I don't want to give them the green light to work on it, only to find out that I still have the problem with the horn. Has anyone had this issue before?

Any advice is much appreciated.

Thanks

Thanks for the responses, I really do appreciate it.

I thought that $70 was a bit high and that he did not explain why the horn was having low output indicates that he did not try very hard to assess, even though I paid $45 for him to.
I still don't understand how the leads could have damage? They played fine for two days after I got them back and all of a sudden the woofer just cut out? I even found that they didn't shim the voice coil when they re-foamed it. I then asked how did they do it without having the voice coil rub, and he told me they have a "special method". I nicely asked him what this method was and he still would not tell me. Don't I have a right to know how they do a job if I pay for it? I hate dealing with repairs and the shops that do them. I feel half the time that I am paying twice as much for their mistakes.

I've only met two repair men in Los Angeles that are honest and good, it's too bad that they don't do speakers.
