JBL 518s with any replacement 18" speaker

Hi.
I have an JBL EON-518s subwoofer on my workbench with a blown woofer.
The voice coil shows no continuity, the amplifier appears to be working.

In the specification sheet it says:
"LF Diver: 1 x JBL 268G (18") Differential Drive Integrated Woofer with dual voice coils, 4 ohm load"

I don't really know what a "Differential Drive Integrated Woofer" is, but it surely doesn't have dual voice coils.

I wonder what it would sound like with any 18" 4 ohm woofer, and what the minimum continuous watt rating of this woofer would have to be?

Power rating of the EON518s is 500W continuous, 1000W max.

It certainly does have dual voice coils.. see here.. Differential Drive

You're going be better off reconing the 268G, search for recone kits online or send it out to a reputable shop to have it done.

A different 4ohm driver may "work" as in make sound and not blow up immediately but it's unlikely to produce the same response as the original driver so it's hard to say if it will last and it probably won't play well with others.
