Hello,
I'm rather new to this forum, so first off I'd like to say how informative you've all been during my days as purely a browser, rather than the fledgling member I am now 🙂 .
OK, down to the nitty gritty.
There is a pair of 15" JBL Speakers that I'm looking into buying, they go by the name JBL2226HPL. Problem is I can't find too much information on them, I understand the 2226H is quite a revered speaker round these parts, but I'm wondering what the PL on the drivers I'm looking into stands for.
I believe the H in HPL states that it's a 8 ohm model(as it does with the 2226H model), but what does the PL mean?. Is it a lesser model in comparison to the 2226H or a better one, is it supposed to be a midbass driver or a subwoofer?.
Obviously these are all factors I need to be sure on. I found no reference to it on the JBL site, but I believe they may of come from a Bass Bin(which leads me to think they're probably a lesser model than the normal "H" variation or that they were designed specifically for sub bass usage).
Any information whatsoever would be most appreciated.

Derf...2226HPL
It's exactly the same as a JBL 2226H except that the magnet does not have the rubber "tire" surround.

It's to prevent possible cracks in the magnet against chocks..
A nice attention from JBL.

Jbl2226H means 8 ohmn impedance driver. JBL2226G is 4 ohmn impedance driver. JBL2226J is a 16 ohmn impedance driver. Different voice coil and reconing parts. JBL produced these for many years then other companies came on board with suitable alternatives to paying for the JBL brand name.
P Audio is one such company
The 2226HPL do have subtle differences in the label colour year of manufacture and also the rubber ring surround said to protect the driver when mounting in internally braced cabinets 18mm custom birch sounds the best most cost effective coated with duratex speaker paint 18mm marine ply is the best. They all do exactly the same thing and perform professionally as expected produce bass increase 63hz on you eq by 3dBi and feel it watch the neighbours complain and mid up to about 850hz depends on where the crossover point is set.

Australian Audio Company Jands used the JBL2226H driver 2 of them in a tuned band pass sub enclosure known as a system 1200 cabinet 1200w RMS The cabinet produced high sub frequency SPL when driven for example with an Australian Monitor AM1600 or AM3002 amplifier. Jands also produced a System 1400 cabinet which contained 2226H drivers x 2 in a tuned ported enclosure of specific size braced internally for SPL level with a JBL2445 horn flare for the mid high frequencies. The box contained and active or passive switch so it could be run full range or in Bi Amp configuration. Often outdoor gigs were done with 2 system 1200 and 2 system 1400 cabinets per side. 3 phase power was required to accommodate the huge amperage needed to drive all the amplifiers. A 3 way crossover was used for example JBL M552 active 2 way mono 3 way which split the signal into 3 separate bands to supply the amplifiers and onto the speakers. System 1200 cabinet crossover point 100hz system 1400 cabinet do from 100 up to 850 900hz then the crossover and high frequency protection capacitor with JBL 2445 does the rest up to 20000hz.
The 2226H driver works best in what is known as an S Bin or folded horn design. 1 speaker per cabinet size specific angle specific internally braced and dampened for back wave acoustics and tuning. Outdoor events often saw 2 of these each side of the stage. This cabinet combined with what is known as a J Bin, the same cabinet design but with a horn flare JBL2445 in the top and a passive crossover in the box saw exceptional long throw penetrating bass for huge crowd outdoor events with the J Bin sat on top of the S Bin so the high frequencies penetrated over the heads of people and could be heard long distances away also. Industry knows this as an active 2 way system.
Lab Grupen make an incredible 4 channel power amplifier 4 x 1750w @ 4 ohmns all channels driven.
Chinese company Sanway made a clone of the above mentioned amplifier which wasn't successful in there first production round, had heatsink power supply problems. They became aware of this and produced a revised product extended heatsink and different components which has no faults and performs flawlessly Its known as a Sanway FP10000Q
If you need to purchase JBL2226HPL Drivers I have professional reconned brand new never hooked up and driven speakers available for purchase, 4 of them. Other gear mentioned here in response is also available. Cheers, Muze
