KEF Q90

I have a pair of KEF Q90's. Over time their treble became dull and lifeless. I tried replacing the ferrofluid in the tweeters without success. So I called KEF and asked if they still had SP1276 tweeters. They said no, the replacement is the SP1413.
A few days later I get the tweeters. They look EXACTLY the same except for the dome material. I''m thinking great; a direct drop-in. No fuss. Wrong.
Although they are physically identical, they don't seem to fit correctly in the center of the midrange driver (these are Uni-Q's). They keep the midrange cone from travelling freely.
What am I missing here?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!

Dull sounding treble can be caused by an Electrolytic capacitor in the crossover deteriorating.
Kef use Electrolytic caps in their Q Series.
I would have upgraded the capacitors before I changed tweeter domes ,
however listen if you can get your new domes to fit ,
and then change the capacitors if still dull treble.

Unfortunately the wires on these new tweeters are thicker than the originals, and I've figured out this is what is preventing a good fit. Soldering is not my strong suit; i would not attempt to do these. I'll try and find someone to do it for me.

I just did this process on 103/4's. The wires seem to be one gauge heavier than the originals so my first try rubbed. NOT a great design but what I did was clamp the wires to the magnet structure with a tywrap and secure them with Gorilla brand CA glue. It has micro rubber bits that enhance adhesion to metal; not really anything new but most superglues seem to fail this kind of test. Darn those KEFs. So interesting, so frustrating. The new tweeters are nice though. They are benefitting from a thorough re-cap of the XO.
