So my dad has an original pair of kicker Comp 15s up in the attic. One needs a surround, and dust cap glued back on. But the other is perfect, both fully functional.
I found the manual on the internet, plugged the parameters into winisd, and in an isobaric ported cabinet, these 2 have an f3 of 15 Hz! I was quite surprised to see this! The box is a little big, but well worth it. When I get home this afternoon and post a few pictures of what I came up with. I was curious if this sounds unreasonable? I'm hoping winisd is a trustworthy program, I've seen some people like to use it, buts it's not the most common one I see. If a recall there not a super power hungry driver and also wanted to know if this would be a good sub for a home theater type driver, but play music well also?

Hi crasycode,
I'm surprised too,In case this is true the size of the box and ported system would be quite large...compare with this HR simulations:

i'll get a few pictures of the project this afternoon to show my results. cause if what i think i'm looking at i understand, it isnt showing the same thing that my winisd came up with. and if i recall, i didnt end up with all of the parameters that winisd calculates with. so i dont know if they were vital to designing the box?
wll i cant get a picture to upload, but with a 14.83^3ft box, tuned to 17.8 hz, well have an f3 of right around 15.8
So my f3 was slightly off, but right in there. Is a box like this still going to play smoothly for music? aside from being able to stress the foundation when an explosion or something is played through it?

It's always possible to tune low at an expense of performance... See the submitted pictures.

I guess playing music with non whatsoever frequency contents below 22 Hz would be acceptably if the peak at the lower FR end is tamed using an EQ or HPF, but for HT use, I would use a > 24 dB/octave HPF at or above the driver fs.

What performance am i losing with a box built like that?
and is that because its harder to control the driver below its fs?
