LAB GRUPPEN vs Crown K2

The Lab Gruppens are superior to the Crown K series. The Crowns weigh more (38lbs VS 22lbs), need to be spaced apart in the rack for cooling (it's a closed system with no fans), and likely won't deliver the impact of a LG. Just my opinion....

It draws 20A when putting out 1/8th power (clipping a signal with 9dB crest factor). Full sine wave power can be 3400w, if your mains supply is up to it.

Chris

The ones around here have a special circuit to avoid tripping a 20 amp circuit breaker. The power rating is for 50 mS or less. The Crown rating on their older amplifiers are continuous. Newer ones also are nonsense.

As per their data sheet:

"1: Both channels driven, MLS = 0dB. Measured with 33% duty cycle (33ms 1kHz sinusodial burst)."

If the FTC rules were still in effect the FP3400 would be rated as a 365 watt amplifier. I have used them. They are nice clean amplifiers that do not produce a much power as claimed.

Ok
I have my rack together now
I will have to get speakon for the labs...

I have some setup questions I need to ask...always lots to learn

1.......What is the advantage of inserting your main EQ+compressor over having it inline before the crossover..
I picked up a mint USA made Mackie 32.8 non vzl and it has main insert ... is it normal to insert these..

2.......horn placement. ..as you can see in the picture we have the 2" JBL horn to the inside and it reacts badly with the mics...feedback. .
Would it be better to put them to the outside. ..

Thanks gents

If you MUST place your tops on their sides (as it seems to appear), I would definitely position the horns toward the outside, then angle the boxes inward to minimize HF reflections. Personally, I don't think HF dispersion should be compromised in favor of creating space for decorative affects on top of the stacks.

Just personal preference, my main EQ is inline between mixer & amps. I insert compressor/limiters in my sub mixes & noise gates on individual drum channels.

Thanks again
Joe....yes the tops were switched with the horn to the outside. ..eq inline is what I have for both main and monitor. ..going to try the labs this weekend. .crown on monitor
Did have crown on main and audiopro ap3000/ap1200 on monitor. .

Chris..sennheiser 900e drum mics..421...57 on hats...a couple peavey PVM 520i on 15 and 18 toms..16 mics total on kit (for fun)
Sensibly pointed....904e are clip on pointed down about 1 inch (25mm)from heads
57 on guitars. ..bass head has DI built in..nice
Beta 58 volcals

All and any tips welcomed
I am using a Mackie 32.8 USA made board. .non VLZ

Okay, there's a few sources of feedback I could suggest...

If you're getting feedback in the lower midrange, it might well be the resonant frequency of the panels making up your speakers. I had some Deltamax cabs that resonated really well at 190, 200 and 270Hz on the side panels, leading to feedback at all of those frequencies when the volume is pushed.

If the feedback is in the treble, chances are you're dealing with room reflections. Something soft on the opposite wall should work wonders.

Any wedge monitors around?
How loud are you trying to go?
Do you have any EQs around?

Chris

Ok
I have it dialed in better
I have to get my spx90 and 990 going and my drawmer dual compressor in..
I have a korg 3300 triple delay but cannotseem to be able to get it going..
No time left...gig is Saturday night. ..
Added another 18
