If you have SDX7 they should be used. I pefer in a sealed box.

Different driver, but maybe comparable in some ways - I had the Lii Fast 8 in several OB configurations (on it's own, FAST). I enjoyed the quality of the dynamics and midrange, but the upper mid-range was peaky and unforgiving on more complex material (e.g. electric guitars). Also the top end dropped off around 12k, and beaming was an issue with it being an 8 inch driver/whizzer cone.
Currently playing with a MA driver (CHN110), admittedly in an MLTL, but I'm finding it noticeably more detailed and the top end much smoother/extended. I'd interested to try a SLOB with a MA driver up top one day.

ljfont - I built some OBs with Lii Audio's predecessor to the Silver 6, their now-discontinued F6. Lii Audio sent me a pair of those for free while waiting on some bigger drivers. Anyway, these were my first OB speakers and I made them to test my carpentry skills and the OB concept. The baffle is 600mm wide and 720 high, built from 26mm thick finger-jointed merbau, with little hinged "wings" on the back, 200mm deep at the bottom and 75mm at the top, which double as prop stands.
I'm listening to Buddy Tate right now (Blueglow Kegger SE KT88 12 watt amp made during lockdown) and I reckon they're pretty good. Not bad for free (they used to sell for $60 - see here: Lii Audio Full range speaker 16 cm Diameter (6") F6 2 Pcs - Lii Audio, unique speaker, amplfier, quality and cost-saving parts for HiFi DIY.)
I'll admit that a listener, not a measurer, but these compare well with my Tannoy 15" Gold Monitors (my father bought new in the late 60s, in Lancaster boxes), my focal 714Ss, my Kef Q7s, and interestingly, my now-arrived Lii Audio F-18s in big Big Betsy style OBs.
If the Silver-6s are an improvement on these old F6s, then I expect you would not be disappointed with them on the right open baffle. But then again ... I can't too hear much above 10khz, so YMMV. Have fun and stay safe!

I only heared the 10 and the 12 inch variation of those Lii drivers and they don't sound good to me, a very ragged response and early roll-off. And when i measured them they were far from what the specs told us. Those were send back to the shop by the owner (luckely he could return them) and Sonido's were ordered which were a lot better (but still not my favorite). They were used in a reflex cabinet altough.
CSS woofers are very good, so they surely can be used. But if you want a 6" top fullrange drivers, there are way better ones from Mark Audio, Tang Band, Seas and Fostex availeble, I would rather go that way.

Thanks for the responses!
I've owned FOSTEX FE167E and used them with my F2J amp. I ended up selling the FOSTEX and downsized to MA A6p with SDX7 in a FAST speaker. It is really great, but I'm really missing the Mids/upper-Mids that the FE167E had on some recordings that the A6p does not have.
The FE167E did breakup on higher and more complex material, so I sold them.

What enclosure did you have them in? The pair I had would play quite loud, so that's why I'm curious.

I'm reading mixed results with the Lii Audio speakers. I guess i'm wanting to try something else other than Fostex or MA.
In other threads, some say that the Lii audio speakers aren't shouty as other full range speakers.

FYI/FWIW, the S6's cone with its regular, but non circular, flex 'rings' is radically different enough from any typical wide range driver's that predicting /comparing to others regardless of brands/models that I'm guessing an 'exercise in futility', ditto there's likely no frequency response because to smooth it out will require making it as useless as some of the pioneer's 'broad brush' hand drawn plots, ergo it's a 'caveat emptor' choice for me, at least for now.

To paraphrase Superintendent Hastings from Line of Duty: Jesus, Mary, Jospeh and the little wee donkey, that FR plot does not a pretty sight make. Assuming it's accurate (just assuming, without prejudice) it might make an acceptable large format cone tweeter above ~1.5KHz. Possibly.
my now-arrived Lii Audio F-18s in big Big Betsy style OBs.
Simon, Lii says "Superb Scale Soundstage with New Imaging" and "When this one is played, you will feel being submerged in music". How is it?
As an F15 owner, I feel compelled to ask.
For those curious, here's the aforementioned FR plot of that Silver 6

😱 Thanks! 'Shades' of Lowther, AN and their ~clones! 🙁
As I feared, lots of diaphragm critical mid band 'ripple'. 🙁
Worse, it 'ramps up' right in the critical 'whack', 'tinny' [1 - 2 kHz] BW: Interactive Frequency Chart - Independent Recording Network

Interesting stuff. I ordered up a bunch of pairs of Lii drivers, and some
other kind person gifted me a pair of the Silver 10's in the big bass
reflex enclosures they offer. I haven't had time to play with the drivers
yet, but the finished speakers have some nice qualities. They measure
pretty much as specified and they required modest Eq - shelving down
about 5 dB above 1 KHz. The bass was a bit overwhelming in my room,
but adding some dacron stuffing pretty much took care of that.
In general, very lively sound, great articulation, high efficiency.
I am looking forward to playing around more with these and the other
drivers, and I will post anything interesting.

Nelson, i wouldn’t call 5 dB minor.
They certainly have used cosmetics that hark back to some stellar older drivers to their advantage. Some ar every pretty (some not so much),
I will be interested in your take.

Nothing wrong with vocals from MA A10p & A12p.

I don't doubt you. I'm looking for a new experiment.
Perhaps a Lii Audio driver 6" or 8" OB, with slot loaded CSS SDX7 as per NP
Maybe ill give whizzer cones another try.

jjasniew - I've just completed the F18's open baffle and mounted the drivers - I've not even oiled the timber yet, so its' early days. The baffles (pictured in post 4) are 33mm solid teak, 1000mm high and 800mm at the widest, leaning back at 6.5 deg; they have a solid timber base but no wings (I hope to experiment with wings later, as I think they might tighten up the bass a little) As presently placed (less than 2 feet off my window wall) the drivers are brand new and sound good. There are great highs (a nice surprise to me, up to my 10kHz top), a full rich middle where most of my music is - great voices, and a pleasantly strong bass, but not overly punchy so far. My SE amp has no tone controls and the F18s seem to work well with it and the mid century jazz that I like to listen to - making a ton of volume from it's 10 or so watts. They are less directional than the 6" OBs and fill the room better (but still with some beaming, but I mostly listen seated in the one spot anyway) - so yes, they're a bit like a huge pair of headphones. I am happy to give them more time ... So far, I'm comfortable with my $500 spend - and they certainly look the part! I bought them because - as my father said - "a good big speaker beats a good small speaker every time"!
Well, i did spend some time yesterday with a guy in my region who owns an OB setup with the Silver 8 and the W15 woofer from Lii. Next to it is his old setup with the AN Alnico 10's and AE 15" woofers and they do sound very similar. He uses them with SET amplifiers and an analog crossover.
I think the Lii is a kind of better version of the AN drivers. I don't like both, but i can see why they are appealing to people who like that kind of drivers. But for me they are very ragged in response, beaming and not worth it. It's not that they are unlistenable, but for way less you can get better. And other oldskool brands like Lowter are a lot better than that.
The guy invited me there because he wants me to design an MLTL for a pair of silver 6's that he ordered for his office. So i will have those somewhere soon in my house to measure and design. If he doesn't mind i may post about that (but he is a paying customer, so his wish is law).
