M-Audio AV40 makeover......

Hello and Mery Xmas to one and all!

I have aquired four M-Audio AV40 speakers.
T
wo of them are buzzing and misbehaving totally so....

I gutted two of them, and found that the two capacitors are kaputt and have leaked all over the PCB, to my utmost dismay.
I took all the innards out (see pictures) and I am left with an ordinary two-way speaker.

I'd like some advice in the recommendation of the cross-over and amplifier to make the speakers work to their fullest potential - I intend to use Lepai 2020A

If I could I get any advice/suggestions/ideas in regards to which cross-over is the recommended type for my speakers it would be greatly appreciated 🙂

thanks in advance!

I recommend you replace faulty caps. Passive XO filter parts
can be seen on your photos. Examine the board and you'll probably
trace the parts. Should not be many, probably 5 or so. I see 0,85mH
and 0,22 mH already. 0,85 mH coil should go directly to a bassmid
unit, if I am not mistaken in assuming.

Looking at the mickeymouse size of drivers on the pictures, not sure that you will have huge quality improvement by putting a much better amp stage into them. I've already played with some of those type el cheapo active boxes, and found that the limiting factor there are the drivers, not the electronics in them.
