Largest such instrument in the world?
They should repurpose the facility as a museum -- like Kelvingrove in Glasgow

I'd always wanted visit that Macy's just to hear the organ. It such an amazingly bonkers concept of sticking a symphonic organ into a department store. Or was it building a department store around a gigantic instrument?
Suggest going around Christmastime. Have held regularly - scheduled; Christmas - related concerts for years PLUS you might be able to schedule a Philadelphia Orchestra Christmas concert on the same day!
Pity about the organ. I play pipe & electronic organs, and have heard the Wanamaker on the radio. Most old organs are killed by leaky roofs, if developers don't tear down the building.
This happens just after I finally discovered a reason to visit Philadelphia. University_of_Pennsylvania_Museum_of_Archaeology_and_Anthropology has a collection of native American artifacts. I could care less about visiting the Liberty Bell, Independence Hall, Ben Franklin house, etc. I had enough founding father's lore rammed down my throat in mandatory American History courses in school. Some of my ancestors were here 13000 years before the European invasion. The rest were imported by coal companies about 1895. Just in time for the sons to be drafted to fight WW I. Short men that would crawl to dig in low coal seams were in great damand.

It was quite impressive in person. Hope that whatever the building becomes it continues to be played and well maintained.
Rather Beautiful, Would be a Joy to Hear.
Curiosity got me. Originally John Wanamaker Department Store est 1861
Apparently a big influence on Retail, being the first to use price tags.

You can see the organist playing, seated in the hallway to the left of the pipe assembly.
