I just picked up a pair of used Magnepan LRS.....Replaced Magnepan MMGs.....In a word, FANTASTIC! Huge improvement over the MMGs in bass, dynamics, midrange, vocals......But in my room, a bit bright. I have the recommended attenuation resistors...1 ohm and 2 ohm.....But my question, can I use an L-Pad instead of a standard resistor? would allow more adjustability.......The back of the LRS has a place to insert a resistor in series with the tweeter. How would I wire the tree terminals from an L-Pad...Thanks
An L-pad can be used as a rheostat by connecting the wiper arm and one of the fixed terminals in place of the tweeter attenuation resistor.
However, the L-pad will have too much resistance, resulting in a small usable range. If the 1 ohm and 2 ohm resistors cause too much attenuation, you can connect them in parallel to make a 0.67 ohm resistor. If that is still too much attenuation, you can order ceramic resistors with smaller values from DigiKey or Mouser.

I wonder why bass would be better, maybe you can enlighten me. since the panel size is less (less then a MMG and or SMG-A). and besides that nothing changed except less baffle so even less bass. i get stomped daily with raving reviews about the LRS except for the measurement on www.audiosciencereview.com they are ... demolished . but i cant see where people are getting these experiences from. more foil is better bass... (in there case since the rest is the same) less baffle less lows. there tweeter still is a wide line source , that fluctuates vertical and create peaks and dips, there bass is now foil witch does not make sense in there case, depending on where the tweeter takes over since going from wire to foil hurts the low end and benefits top end.. but when the tweeter already took over. thats a waste of time but a good marketing trick
then although i love magnepan, they went for L R S Little ribbon loudspeaker... except nothing in there is a ribbon. they clearly have a new marketing guy. and it works apparently 🙁 and im sad i loved magnepan. they start to become what i hated and loved magnepan for 🙁

Mouser do a 5 ohm 5W wirewound potentiometer: https://www.mouser.co.uk/ProductDetail/CTS-Electronic-Components/026TB32R5A0B1A1?qs=6E8igxPflKdQHq7WVG9ArA==
Wire as described in post #2.
If not of a high enough power rating, at least it will allow you to tell which value of fixed resistor you should be aiming at.
