Micromega T-drive 2 remote control

Hi to all

Few days ago I bought this CD transport but without remote control. Now the problem is that the CD drive reacts-gets crazy with all remotes that I have (for TV, for amplifier,etc).Problem that he mess up the signals from other remote controls.What can i do to fix this problem?Can it be reprogrammed somehow or the only solution is to buy the original remote?

Thanks

🙂 Can you just be a little clearer what you mean ?

Are you trying to use a universal remote to control it ?

I have a MicroMega Stage 2 and the remote operation although fine with the original, doesn't like codes learnt into universal learning remotes.
I use a Cambridge Explorer touch sensitive learning remote but it's a nightmare to get all the functions to work. Something odd with the MM logic and the way it interprets commands. The parity bits all seem correct on learnt functions but it won't have it.
Each key needs a different "set up". Have to learn the original command to a Koenig remote. From there to the Cambridge. But that only works for some functions, others I have to set up macros for... for example to play I might use "stop" "stop" "index" "Play" all set up as one macro command.
I have got it all to work... took around 3 or 4 hours trying different things for each key.

Hi,
As I said I don't have original remote for my Micromega, but i don't know even where to buy it. It will be the best solution to buy original one.But people said that just few functions will work with universal remote and I don't want that. Can you send me a picture of your remote to see how it looks like?
Nightmare it is as you said, i've tried original Philips remote and it just says err,and always err.

This is the original. It's all standard Philips RC5. Have a friend with Sugden CD21 and our remotes seem fully interchangeable... so that's a possibility... buy one of those.
Seems odd yours saying error... that means it's recognised a code... if it was a wrong code it would ignore it I would have thought.

My friend has got the exact one remote.I'll try it tommorow.Thanks

Today I have a new problem with my device. Is it normal that when I touch IR sensor it stops playing CD , or when i gently move my finger above it? It seems to me that that sensor not working well.Inside is Sharp GP1U521X sensor.Didn't try the remote control because this problem came up.😡

When I was trying to find why my Stage 2 wouldn't work with "learned" commands from other remotes I 'scoped the output from the IR receiver and it was permanantly "noisy" with odd random changes in output 1-0-11-0-10-1 etc, although that didn't effect the operation with the original remote.
I added a 10uf tantalum cap across the supply pins to it on rear of PCB and added a grounded wire mesh over the front of the IR sensor... which I got from another old IR receiver I think... that's an old technique.

It's behind a really dark window so even with flash it's hard to see. Just above the display.

Can you give me some picture of this?
That thing with grounding wire helped but still reacts on other remotes, and its less sesitive...Today I found this :
Bill Harrison on IR detectors

The detector in my Stage is similar to this... have drawn the wire mesh on it to give you the idea. Just a small 1cm by 1cm or so in size and soldered to the ground leg.

I can't find anywhere for sale this light detecting unit Sharp GP1U521X. Can you tell me what will be the adequate substitution for it. BTW the remote RD5861 works, but not 100%.The unit still reacts on other remotes.So definitely I must change the sensor.

First remember mine is a "Stage 2" not a T Drive, so they are different.
There are many IR receivers that should work... even if it's physically different there are only 3 connections. Even one from a scrap VCR etc would do to test.
The best test is to look at the output on a 'scope to see if the data looks corrupt.

Problem is to find IR receiver with exact data:

Vcc=6.3V
Icc=5mA
Voh=Vcc-0.5V
Vol=0.45
B.P.F freq.=38kHz
and has to have signal processing circuit inside unit. Can the Cd transport work manually without this IR receiver till I find exact one?

Any will work 🙂 those in my link are 38khz center carrier, and they all only draw a few ma.
Problem... no problem 😉

Hi,
Yesterday I changed the IR receiver and nothing happened. The only good thing is that the IR receiver doesn't react on touch anymore. CD player still goes crazy when I push the buttons on other remotes(ex.form TV or amp)?Now I'm really confused!?
BTW: The remote RD 5861orig. from Philips sometimes works sometimes not and when works not all of the buttons have their functions.

Hi vdeki,
You really do need to see what is happening on an oscilloscope. That has to be the next step, to see if the data is clean, correct amplitude etc, and that it arrives at the microprocessor controlling the remote functions OK.
It's very odd to have (any) item that responds incorrectly to other commands from non related equipment such as TV's etc.

So without 'scoping things to see, then we are just guessing. There may be random noise etc on the R/C data line that is confusing things...

Hi Mooly,

Today I found a new problem. When playing discs( no matter if original or burned) sometimes cd skips on let me say about 2 seconds. It's like a pause in that 2 sec.(no sound) but the timer keeps playing like nothing happend. I tried few times many discs to see are the discs maybe dirty but it doesn't skip on same place/song? One more thing.The laser pickup up is well greased and I think that not the problem. Today I listened the music about 5 hours and noticed this strange problem...

Does the T Drive use the CDM9 laser ?
This is the "swinging arm" type pickup as opposed to the CDM12 sled type.

It's just with you saying it's well greased. The only moving point on the CDM9 is the swing arm bearings (two ball bearings) and you can't really see those directly.

They can stick and dry out though.
