just starting out with building speakers and systems and im fascinated with the possibilites of these minidsp modules. are there any interesting alternative platforms (microcontrollers / rasperryPi) that do simple crossovers / eq / routing like the minidsps? thanks in advance
If you're using a PC as a source, you can do quite a bit with the APO software and it's GUI named "peace." I have a bunch of mini DSPs, but often use APO instead, since many of my sources are PC based.

but I think that Minidsp 2x4HD is the best choice!

Parts express make a decent one, DSP-408. It does eq, delay, crossover, gain with a phone app or from a pc. You can BT stream to it with the extra dongle. Ive got one and I love it. It’s also like $200 with the BT dongle!
What soundcards are you using, Patrick? PCI-E or USB? Please list a few models that you worked with and are OK. I settled on a hypex fusion amps with a streamer hooked to a usb dac. The plate amps have a soft start- lots of solutions do not have this. Plus, the plate amps are like sigmaDSP lite in that it is the same chip but uses hypex software to make things easier.
other options that I thought were interesting but have not tried:
teensy 4.1

an eval board

thanks everyone for the replies. . it looks like minidsp seems to be the standard for stable / simple solutions - but i like some of these others ones. will probably order a wondom for fun.
wow - thomann + behringer are so good at copying stuff these days. i like the version with built in amps.. might have to go for that.
edit - the version with amps got some scary customer reviews (when powering up is sends its full voltage to all outputs for a second.. ). .. will probably stay away from that 😵

a follow up (as OP).. i came accros Tinysine - a chinese company that has a few nice boards which work with sigma studio.. seems to be my favorite alternative to mini so far.. https://www.tinysineaudio.com/
I use current drive amps which naturally linearize the frequency response of one way fullrange drivers and lower distortion of the speaker at the same time.
In addition there are some EQ apps for Smartfones up zo 31bands what is pretty sophisticated.
I search for an app for android smartfones or windows pc which can make a frequency dependent delay for backloaded horn loudspeakers to correct the time smear induced by the horn length. Besides classic frequency eq

^ for this you need FIR.
Rephase should be able to do this then you need a deconvolver plug in to process your audio.

well i know of dynamic eq plugins for music production that do something similair. but what hardware would you use to upload this into as a part of a playback system? or would you be using the laptop / device for playback?
Wishniak, which dyn Eq please?
I don't know if your comment was heading to me but with Rephase you need a deconvolver so very likely a plug in (voxengo pristine space, Wave ir1,...) so a pc/laptop.
Or you own a Sony DRE-S777. 🙂

Most elegant would be to recalculate wav music files with fir algorithm and then just play only this music
See I would have to study the website how to do it.^ for this you need FIR.

Hi,
I don't think this is the most elegant solution as it is not realtime ( you can't listen to radio) and could require a lot of storage space for your files.
But it is how it was done circa 2000 ( computers wasn't powerful enough to run real time).
It won't change the need for a deconvolver though ( you would have to record the output of plug in doing its thing to hdd).
Freedom666,
Do you have an alignement table for your horn? Or do you know the groupdelay? It would be helpful.
