Hi - I am looking for a pair of working tweeters for the earlier ( non freedom) version of the Mission 753. Anyone aware of an equivalent size, shape tweeter perhaps from other Mission speakers that would fit and perform well?. I am aware of a company that will fit a new tweeter to your housing but a previous owner seems to have glued ( very solidly) weird small silver tweeters in there that cannot easily be removed ! Any help/advice would be welcome
Looks like a proprietary neo tweeter with WG. Maybe one of the many available Tymphany flangeless tweeters will fit with some trimming, depending on how butchered yours are.
On second glance it appears the frame of this tweeter originally held an older version Peerless or Vifa tweeter with snap in mounting.

One possible tweeter replacement I've seen mentioned is the Monacor DT-100.
However, you need to check out its dimensions: https://www.monacor.com/products/components/speaker-technology/hi-fi-tweeters-/dt-100/

Thanks for your help with this. Its hard to work out what is best bet as there seems no info on the original tweeter spec apart from crossover frequency is 3K and impedance is 4 ohms. Looking at the spec of the Monacor DT100 it looks like it is too deep and mounting hole diameter isn’t big enough in the 753,s
Typing 'mission 753' on search engine brings to this site

Nice site, pico, but the problem is that a "silver" replacement tweeter insert has already been securely glued into the Mission tweeter faceplate.
I gather that memu51 is looking for a complete replacement tweeter which incorporates a faceplate that is compatible with the Mission one, and not an insert.
If he can remove the "silver" tweeter insert, then here is a source of the DT-284 tweeter insert recommended in your link:

picowallspeaker's link confirms the 4 ohm rating, but the impedance plot shows a crossover frequency of around 2,000 Hz using a 12dB/octave slope.

Let's have the dimensions associated with the Mission tweeter faceplate and the mounting hole diameter in the enclosure.
Looking again at picowallspeaker's link, it seems that the circular opening in the Mission faceplate has to be increased in diameter to take the replacement DT-284 insert.
So, if you can cut out that glued in "silver" insert, pico's modification might just be doable!
I'm assuming, of course, that it is really necessary to get rid of those "siver" inserts in the first place!

Tweeter faceplate is 118mm x 73mm
My first attachment shows that the 73 mm dimension is critical, and I can't find a substitute tweeter with a rectangular faceplate so narrow.
It looks like you may have to become creative and mount a smaller tweeter on a diy aluminium faceplate as shown in my second attachment.

I presume you are referring to Willys Hifi. Have you tried contacting them with your problem?

Yes - Willys need your un molested tweeter!!
Will probably try to find one to fit the front plate
Thanks

That's what I was trying to ascertain.
You haven't shown us how badly molested it is - that would be interesting!
Have just got back to this as I am quite poorly!
Anyone know the power rating tweeter of the original 4 ohm Mission 753 tweeter. Looks like I will have to find a match

Have you seen this web page:

I think the price is reasonable for a repair of a pair of tweeters. Maybe communicate with them and discuss options.

Hi
Thanks for the reply
Yes had a word with them to find out what make they are fitting. They indicated they had them specially made!
I would prefer to know what I am having fitted, hence my interest in the power capacity
regards

I do get a few of my components and drive units from Willys Hifi, as well as the odd chat. They have been in the business for a long while and have been used by several UK loudspeaker companies.
Obviously I am biased but I do not think they will let you down. Also they have knowledge of why the original fails. I am at a bit of a loss to know why the tweeter Xover component overheats?? Which suggest poor design, but it was from the 90's I guess.
Actually on your point of tweeter power rating, once behind a sensible network 75 watts or more can be easily fed to the loudspeaker and the tweeter will only be receiving one or two watts of that. Some data sheets qualify the tweeter power rating by by giving a recommended Xover frequency and slope 2.6kHz/12dB. Maybe slightly unfortunate that Willy wont reveal the exact combination if that's what you need to feel comfortable with to go ahead for a purchase.

I'd like to see a photo showing how the previous owner has modified the original Mission tweeters using those "small silver tweeter" inserts.
As far as finding a matching tweeter, we have already ascertained that the 73 mm faceplate dimension of the original is critical to fitting the tweeter on the baffle.
I can't find a replacement tweeter that matches that top to bottom dimension, so you may have to become creative in one of the ways suggested earlier.
