NAD C542 CD Player

I had purchased an NAD C542 cd player years back brand new. I've had an issue with it reading discs. So I figured that perhaps it was the optic/laser or something that was around that area. The section that contains the tray that accepts a cd to be placed in contains all of the gears/motors/laser optics/etc. So I found an optical/laser replacement online and purchased it. At first it would play the discs, but sometimes it would not even show that a disc was being read. Anyhow, now it looks like it tries to read a disc, but all I hear is a clicking noise that appears to be located on the main board near some fuses. I would like to fix it, but not exactly sure what's going on! Any help would be appreciated! Thanks!

Probably the laser attempting to focus. When you replaced the laser, maybe something went out of alignment.
There is a sequence which you can observe. Once the tray is in, does the spindle table come into contact with the CD and the upper clamp? After that, the laser would try to focus (I am referring to this sound probably), once focus is found the CD will spin, and then the TOC will be read.

Hi, yes the spindle does come in contact with the CD and the upper section. Then the disc will spin then stop, then spin and continue this pattern. It does this even when no disc is in the tray. I have taken a photo to show where this clicking sound is coming from each time the spindle stops. I have drawn a red circle in the area that has a clicking sound.

I have the original disc tray unit that has the laser optic and all the gear components before I replaced it. Perhaps I can try and put it back in and see what happens? The reason I had replaced it in the first place was due to skipping, and thought that the laser optic was getting bad.

Maybe it's just time to look for another cd player? Do you guys think a good cd transport would be the way to go for improvement in better sound quality? I do have a good DAC, so just a transport would be ok. I imagine a well built transport with good clocks and such would be the way to go. Not sure if I could get one on Ebay or not? Thanks again guys!
