Nakamichi MB-K1000

I just purchased one of these nakamichi mb-k1000 music kiosk setups which I suspect with the closure of some music stores will become more available as time goes by.
I'm waiting for it to arrive. Does anybody here have any experience with these... there seems to be very little info available on the web.

I play so little CD these days, almost entirely LP with some streaming music, I thought it might be interesting to have this to play around with. It may end up collecting dust or I might get some use out of it, we will see

So it arrived and I did a quick test play, works great sounds great shuts down after 5 minutes of no button presses, however if I press the power on button it resets the timer but does nothing else.
I need to build a circuit that will simulate a power on button press every 4 minutes or so and it should play uninterrupted as long as the power is on. Check out the video.

Hi Frazzled,

I know this thread comes out of the dark ages and you may have moved this Nakamichi on...

I have just been given one that I want to play around with. Presently it's without a power supply so I've got one on order through ebay. I have no idea whether the unit I have works or not and wont know until the power supply gets here.

I was just wondering whether you ever made up that simulation circuit and if so, how did it work out for you? Thanks

bypassing the 5 minute auto shutoff

I got 3 mb-k700 controllers, a power supply, and two 5-disc changers for free when a local Music World (?) outlet closed several years ago. I had the idea of putting them together for a DIY disc changer, but I needed a control box. I bought one from Dbi International in Kenora, of all places, and got an instruction manual with it. It didn't work out, as the controllers I had are for 5-disc systems (black plastic cases); apparently only the controllers designed for 10-disc systems will work (silver metal finish cases.

From the manual:

To override the 5-minute auto standby feature:
1. Make sure that the unit is in the Stop mode (nothing is shown on the display). If this is not the case, press the Stop button.

2. Keep the Play button depressed for at least five seconds. After about five seconds have elapsed, the indication -> (right arrow) flashes on the display and the auto standby feature is cancelled.

3. to reactivate the auto standby function, set the unit in Play mode, and keep the Stop button pressed for at least five seconds; the indication "5:00" appears on the display, and the unit goes into the Stop mode.

Reviving this thread to find out if anybody has had luck using these at home, and whether there are any other quirks (such as the 5 minute timeout override).
I currently have small bids on three of these systems.
