Hi folks, recently bought a Nak ZX-7 and after plugged I noticed a very distorted sound in the right channel and some weird mechanical sound at the pulley that was a little corroded, so I sand it a little and adapt it other pulley to fix it, now it just do not work at all, play ff, rew, rec, just work for one second and stops, advance and stops, do not record or play nothing. I checked some voltages 2V, 5V, 12V and seems ok, what am I missing.or should look for?
When I put the tape, there is a little movement of reverse, and stops, that's ok, but nothing works. I have the service manual, but it's huge and I do not know where to start.
Thx any help.

Nakamichi decks require you to first look at - Loading belt/ Capstan Belt condition.-Are they OK and work properly. Does the two capstans rotate ( i think they constantly run). Next step for you to open the top cover to see the loading mechanism. Does it work smoothly and two capstan's matching Pinch rollers go up and engage correctly . If all these work - you need Nakamichi Gauges/tapes to check many other related stuff for alignment. - naturally you need to understand at least first 30 pages of that manual describing adjustments.
weird sound in mechanical seems to me, very first belt needs replacement ( Loading Belt) and probably it s loose/struggling to turn the gears to load the head block . Opening the top cover will show you the status. Move plastic white gear with your hand to help that to move and raise the head block - it will play tapes. Distortion could be due to play amplifiers needing attention ( caps in Dolby circuit also could be the reason) - good luck - join naktalk forum (Naks dot com website) and post after trying out my suggestions. ZX 7 in very good condition sells over 1000$ to day as it is one of the great Cassette recorders/players, may one among top 6 -8 machines.
