Need schematic for PS Audio Model 1 Amp

I began clean out my storage contain and discovered many items that I forgot I had. So much for being in audio since the 1970's LOL. I found a PS Model 1 with an attached note that indicated it needed love. When I asked Paul about this a few years ago, I got his standard " I cannot remember". I guess it will be the same with the Model 2's and 200c that I also discovered. Hey, I lived through the 70's as well, and can actually remember what I did back then LOL...

I had an assistant back in the 20th century that attempted to do a simple recap. I had NO IDEA that he was not familiar with bipolar supplies. He installed one of the cans backwards. When he powered the amp it went poof and took out some of the rocks. I was a dealer for PS back in the 80's. Back when Paul & Stan were still running things. I have had many combinations of their amps over the years, one of my favorites used a bi amped pair of 200c's.

You could reach out to Paul at PS Audio and he might get a kick out of hearing that a Modelmone is still out there and help you. He’s that kind of guy. I picked up my amps directly from the factory in Santa Maria California in the early 80s.
Already tried that. He claims to have no memory of that amp, or a schematic. Some of us may have had a bit much of the herb superb back then...

I’m sure he’d love to hear from you then. I had an Elite plus too. It was the PS stuff that got me into DIY electronics. The stuff was so well laid out and easy to understand that it taught me a lot about amp. The new PS stuff is light years from back then.

I’m surprised that he doesn’t rem their first product!
His philosophy seems to have changed since the early days. We all had simpler needs back then. I was originally drawn to PS by their initial simple approach to good sound as their primary motivation. Their early designs, while somewhat primitive, did sound better than many of the commercial brands available back then. They were also a very good value. I had the same misfortune as some reviewers when he sent me an early version of the 200c. It was playing in my living room when I heard my ex wife screaming that one of the speakers had burst into flames! One of the channels had railed and was producing 70+ volts of DC. The woofer on that channel caught fire as the VC was busy vaporizing. He replaced the amp, and I still own it.

I’m a simple is better kind of guy. I’m into SE tube amps now. Those early PS amps were just simple designs built better than mass produced crap. Big power supplies and discrete parts. They would give you four times the power when mono bridged which is the sign of a well made power supply. Now they have gone way too far the other way. It sounds good but my stuff sounds alive!

Yes, I am also into tubes these days. Have been for over 25 years, hence the reason all my PS stuff is gathering dust in storage! But alas my wife is pressing me to do some housecleaning and a working amp is far more valuable that a dead one! Without even realizing it, I have amassed 2-40' containers and a 4-car garage full of audio and broadcast equipment over the last 45 years. It may finally be time to find some of this stuff a new home!
