Hi!!
After reading such good reviews, I just ordered a couple of TPA3110 boards from sure electronics.
I'd like to build a couple of small to middle sized speakers using full range drivers to match this amp for everyday's listening, but because of my limited experience I don't know what design and drivers to choose!!! I'm looking for a readily available design if possible, and won't be using a sub.
The setup would be quite straight forward:
Ipod -> TPA3110 with a stereo pot at the input as a volume control -> speakers
I have quite a lot of 1cm baltic birch plywood and sheep wool damping material left from the Cornus I finished some months ago, which I'd like to use if possible.
I'm thinking about small floor standers, or bookshelf enclosures, with as good bass response as possible. My budget for this is quite small a priori, but I'm open to any suggestion!! Drivers under $50 will be warm welcomed!!!
Any ideas???
Thank you very much indeed!!
Cheers,
Fran

Fran,
I use my TPA3110D2 amp from Sure to power the mini Karlsonator (both the 0.4x scale and the 0.53x scale sound great). You will get deeper bass extension and +6dB sensitivity with the dual driver 0.53x scale. The smaller 0.4x scale is perfect for lower sound levels for a small bedroom or office. The cost is right in line with your requirements as qnty 4 x Vifa TC9FD is about $48 (jn the US).

Here is a photo of the 0.4x scale:
Also, the floor stander that Grandcalmar made should work quite well too http://www.diyaudio.com/forums/full-range/239338-mini-karlsonator-0-53x-dual-tc9fds-42.html#post3814383:

These look great!!
I meant $50 per speaker so it's perfect!!
What is the purpose of all the internal bracing? Is it strictly necessary, or just to make the enclosure more robust?
It'll be great to hear some more ideas, but the mini Karlsonators seem to be the perfect thing!! I'd go for the 0.53x version.
Thank you xrk971 !!!!

Bracing is needed if you make it out of foam core which is very light and thin (0.188 in thick). But if you make out of plywood, probably not needed. The foam core may be tough to get where you are - here in the US we go to a dollar store for a 20x30in sheet for, you guessed it, $1 ea 😀
If you think the 3110 is good, check out its bigger brother, the TPA3116D2. It is 50 watts/ch and is now made in China for between $15 assembled and $30 (premium version with thru hole components for modding). http://www.diyaudio.com/forums/class-d/237086-tpa3116d2-amp.html The latest favorite there is the "Danzz 2.0 blue board" Yuanjing. The China manufacturers scour these forums and lifted a design by member Danzz and made it in mass quantities for low cost.

This is great news!! I'm building these speakers then!
$1?? You're so lucky!! It's quite hard to find foam core here in Valencia. There are a couple of shops in which you can find it, but the m^2 is almost as expensive as good quality baltic birch plywood from the guy I usually buy it from.
Glad to hear that there's a big brother of the TPA3110 !! I'm sure I won't be disappointed with the TPA3110, everyone seems to agree that it's a great bang for the buck (hope I'm not making this idiom up 😀)
Does somebody know a source of Vifa drivers in Europe?
I'll keep you posted with the progress of my build!
Thanks again, You're a lifesaver!!!
