Online Retail Review: Electronic Goldmine

Wanted to let everyone know of a online place I recently went through.

Electronic Goldmine, basically a reseller I guess. They have a bunch of buy out and overstocks that they sell real cheap. I bought a bunch of odds and ends, especially some Gold Paks. All in all I spent about $40 total and got a bunch of stuff. Plus they have cool mystery boxes, where you just get a bunch of stuff for cheap.

Shipping was expensive though, about $9 (on a $30 order thats alot!). But everything came nicely packed like Parts Express.

They don't really sell anything special, or exotic, but if your someone who doesn't mind using Samsung or Nichicon capacitors or stuff made from copper and not gold, or just looking to expand the junk box, this seems like a great place (well IMHO at least  )

Service at the Gmine

I have been buying stuff at the Electronic Goldmine for quite some time, its got great prices. Recently I bought a 12VCT transformer and upon plugging it in it measured 8VCT. I called them and explained the situation and they sent me a new one, didn't even have to send the old one back. So I like their service, just don't email them you get an autoreply telling you to call.

I have alot of other good sites

hi some of this stuff has been listed but i had alot of extra sites on my favorities list

heres the link

Electronic Goldmine - Rude Customer Service!!!

I have been ordering parts for 30 years and only with Electronic Goldmine in Az have I had such a horrible experiences with - their customer service is outright rude.
Being an internet only company, in this day and age of the internet I can't believe they are still in business. I can see why they have so many horrible reviews online and the BBB rates them as an F!

In the interest of all later visitors, thought I might write up what my experience with the Electronic Goldmine was. So far I have ordered 9 (4 regular - 5 small) of their surprise boxes in three separate orders plus some other odds and ends.

Shipping: They ship out late, and you can be waiting up to ten days just for the web order to start to get shipped, unless of course you do what I did: after a couple of days, just give them a call - and they will ship right-away, either all of your order, or whatever part of it that they have on hand. Shipping is also high, (23 dollars in the US for a 15 Pound Package)

Packing: Let's just say that delicate stuff will not survive the journey. Thank gods most of the parts we deal with are not very delicate 😛 rarely is there shielded packing for semiconductors or any other parts, rather they use the pink "anti-static" bags, which are quiet useless in protecting against ESD, although 99% of the stuff I have received so far has tested perfectly ok.

Service: I have called them a few times, and on every occasion they were very helpful when it came to address changes, or shipping faster, or order detail updates. Please keep in mind however that the person answering the phone is not an engineer, so don't expect to get details about the source of their parts or their thermal characteristics.

Items:
most items are OK quality, and in 75% of cases they end up cheaper than even ebay regular sales. the exception is their surprise box. Here is e.g. a short list of what I got in three large surprise boxes priced at (7.50 USD x 3 ):

200+ of headers of different types - no matching females though 🙁
100+ pots, some multiturns, all miniature sized
500+ RN60 .1% precision Vishay/Dale resistors of various values
50+ SIP Dale Precision resistors .01% :O different values.
100+ > 5Watt precision Ohmite resistors, mixed values (mostly .1, .5 and 1 Ohm, awesome!
500+ Allen Bradley 1Watt resistors of different values
100+ Kemet and Elna Polyprop and polyester high voltage caps
300+ > 47uF 100V electrolytics (most are NOS, but I wouldn't trust them as some are rather old)
about 20 different IC sockets.
200+ small ceramic disk caps mixed values
400+ small electrolytics,
5 triple and dual euro-style connector blocks
100+ LEDS, dual/triple/etc. Different colors, All tested good
22 80826 Processors! Woot!
20+ optocouplers
15 TIP31C

Those were just the highlights and what I find useful in audio, there is a lot of other stuff, most of it useless to me. Now I realize I might have gotten lucky, as the contents of the surprise boxes are completely random, but I thought that stuff was definitely worth the price.

If you live outside the US, and if you want a particular part I don't think you should bother with the "Goldmine", but within the US, and if you are merely looking to stock up on items, and if you are in no hurry, nothing beats their surprise boxes.

If anyone finds it useful, I could create a more detailed list of what I got in my surprise boxes (it won't be exhaustive, though 😛 Just drop a line here.

I have purchased from Electronic Goldmine a number of times and have not had any issue with them. Prompt, accurate service. One time they even called me on the phone to discuss an out of stock item.

I'm not sure why one would complain about 'grab box' items. You pay for a bunch of random stuff and that's what you get.

There seems to be a misunderstanding here Brian - I never said the surprise boxes were bad - I actually said they were great (unlike most of the other stuff which is so-so), and I listed all the cool items i got in them, so people can check out how awesome they can be. I got at least 500 dollars worth of goodies in 25 dollars worth of surprise boxes! 😀
