PA speakers for home use question?

I have a recently acquired a PA speaker system that included Community fiberglass bass horns, and two Community RH90 90 degree Horns, with what I believe are updated speakers and drivers to the horns and cabinets, and include EV 15B drivers, with Renkus Heinz SSD 1800 compression mid range drivers. Not sure what the bass horns cabinet and fiberglass flare models are, I believe they are from the early 1980's. I bought these at the local swap meet recently on a whim, not knowing what they were. I'm currently running them with a Sansui solid state preamp, with a early Sargent Rayment power amp with two EL 84 tubes per channel, along with a 12" klipsch active subwoofer. Personally I think the system with the Community speakers sound Great, certainly far superior to my old Cerwin Vega speakers, there really is no comparison, but I'm a novice as to what a great system of this size and type should really sound like. I just know it's a big step up in quality of sound. The Sansui preamp is what I had lying around. I plan to upgrade to a tube preamp in the future. The speaker system includes what appear to be updated crossovers installed inside the bass cabs, my guess is they were changed when the drivers were replaced. The crossovers seem to be well executed as far as build quality and components goes. I have tried to diagram the crossovers, but I'm not sure If I have it correctly done as there are only the pen written specs written on the inductors, one which is iron core and the other a copper coil per crossover. I have included a diagram of the Crossover net work from what I can figure out, the Spec sheet for the Renkus Heinz mid driver, and the spec sheet for the EV driver.


My first question? What cross over point do you think this system should employ given the design of the horns, and the drivers?


Second question? Do these crossover networks appear to be close to that crossover point.


Third question? Do you think this bass horn design is a good way to go. I'm considering building a folded horn mid/bass horn using the Peavey FH-1 or Klipsch La Scala design as an alternative to the community flares, using the EV speakers. Would a folded horn be an improvement over the community bass horn design. I have made an attempt to calculate the bass horn cabinet interior volume as they exist and they appear to be similar, or larger than other bass bin designs such as JBL and Altec.. Any suggestions or help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Your bass horn is really a midrange ported horn - horn on the front of the driver for mid-midbass, with a ported rear chamber for bass. Ususally these work pretty well and are very efficient. You could seal up the port and add a subwoofer with a highish crossover. For mids it's a superior design to the klipsch or peavy.

I question if there's a gap in the upper midrange if the tweeters are only rated to 5khz.

I would highly recommend parametric eq on something like this.
 
I read that as '5kHz' at first but I think it actually reads ".5kHz".

If you go active at 800Hz but with 24dB slopes they should probably take as much as stated at 1kHz but with 12dB slopes. Either way more than plenty for indoors.

To get any worthwhile response between 120 down to about 40Hz you'd have to invest in dedicated 15 or 18 inch PA subs.

fullrange+15inch woofer

Hello.We also want to build a full range woofer plus a woofer for home use(2 way system)It is because of using the potential of fullrange better and reduce distortion of fullrange driver.Also getting better bass response.We will build an active crossover(here is picture we have not put the C and R yet because of crossover point has not been calculated yet).Because of there is no supplier of Hi end woofers here in Turkey and there are very high customs fees for big packages for cargo(300-400USD)We are interested in using PA woofer because of they are available in our country.Eminence and B&C and maybe some other brands too.Which drivers should we choose?Onur İlkorur recommends low Le value(0.85mH) 35Hz Fs 15inch Eighteen Sound neodimium woofer because of low Le value makes woofer faster(He is an expert audiophile and works in an acoustic company in Belgium)Eighteen sound 15NLW9500 woofer is not available in our country.Is not there any replacements at this prices?How important is Le value for you?What do you recommend?Our budget is around 200-300USD for each 15inch woofer.
And speaker should be slim white tower good looking speaker because of wife factor🙂 (15inch woofer should be in side not in front)

Sorry for resurrecting an old post but the bass horn in that picture is a Community Light & Sound model 4896.
Optimized for an EVM15L iirc, these things were crazy efficient and had a respectable LF extension. Nice sounding especially when mated with the RH90.
