About 3 weeks ago I picked up a phillips CD 303 on ebay with CDM0 and saa7010, SAA 7020, SAA 7000 and SAA 7030 chipset with dual TDA 1540 dacs. The player was humming and crackled in both channels which was cured by replacing power supply caps with Panasonic FMs.
I proceeded to replace all the electrolytics with oscons in the decoder and servo boards with amazing results.Fortunately this player does not suffer from the griplets issue that previous cd players from the philips line suffered. The sound on my open baffles and tube amps was unbelievable and I enjoyed it for about a week.
I noticed yesterday that cd that was left in the player the previous day was spinning very fast. The row of LEDS in front of the mechanism were all lit but there was no TOC or time display lighting up. The player responds to stop button, but would not jump to next track or play music, but relentlessly spins the cds. I double checked the power supply voltages to all the chips which are receiving stated dc voltages in the service manual.
Only thing I remember that the day was unusually warm and I had left my Valab NOS dac which runs hot over the CD player.
How do I proceed to troubleshoot and get this player going again? Any help would be greatly appreciated.I have a Fluke DMM and good soldering station but no access to an oscilloscope

Thanks for the reply.There are few of them on the servo and a quite a few on the decoder board.May be I will try replacing the one on the servo board first. Where can I source them as the values are extremely small?
Personally, I have come across two causes to this problem (where the spindle motor runs continuously at high speed):
- The decoder chip may be faulty, or may not be receiving a clock signal.
- The amplifier that drives the spindle motor may be damaged.
I'd have a look for any problems in the whole motor control and drive area.

Will try substituting a decoder chip first as the chips are socketed and relatively easily to swap.I came across an article on the web that was written around 1992 about the same problem in a philips cd 104 was attributed to saa7010 decoder ic.If no go with this one, then I have to get to servo board again to look for problems in the motor drive area and also replace those small precision caps that Steerpike suggested. I am afraid that with these multiple removals, I might damage those flexible cables that connect CDM to the decoder/servo boards.

Got some new old stock saa7010 and Saa7000 chips from star electronics in California. Swapped saa7010 on the socket and pressed power and play, the display lit up, the TOC was read and music flowed again. When I was at it,resoldered all the socketed connections with fresh solder and player is playing non stop Before it put it all back together again, I will let it play non stop for a couple of days. There is something about this vintage machine that makes music sound right which even my modded Rotel 855 and Sony XA777es sacd player don't get seem to get right
