Pre-outs of receiver to subwoofer?

Luxman r115 has no subout, but has pre-outs.

Now I plug a Y adaptor into the preouts on the receiver, means, left and right ends of Y adaptor to the receiver left/right pre-outs, the other end (2in1 end) to ONE subwoofer cable, then the cable to the subwoofer's lfe.

Seems good, but the speakers sound mono, rather than stereo.

What's the issue? How to deal with the matter, I want the full bass (left and right channels ) to subwoofer from the receiver, and only have One good subwoofer cable.

Thank you very much.

Try only plugging in one of the sides of the Y adapter. I believe the lower frequencies are mono, so it shouldn't impact the stereo signal. The only issue it might have is dropping the signal on whatever channel you use, which would obviously not be a viable solution. Otherwise, running a speaker wire/s to it might be the only option.

One side plug is ok, the speakers are stereo.

I wonder if there is a low frequency difference between the right and left side? If same, doesn't matter in fact, I can volume the subwoofer up a little bit.

Thanks.

A standard Y adaptor that is already fitted in subs with L+R line inputs, typically has a 10k summing resistor in series with each line in. This prevents directly shorting the lines like a cheap Y adaptor does and in simply wired amplifiers, this results in mono output to to main speakers too - as you find.

Not all receiver pre-outs are created equal so unless your Y adaptor also has something like 10k resistance in each feed from L and R pre outs, it could simply be shorting the preamps to mono in all configurations. So, add some resistors and see what happens.

Thanks, sounds reasonable and professional. shorting causes the issue.

Would you recommand a standard Y adaptor, Not clear between standard and cheap ones. maybe a link which I can figure out.

best regards.

By cheap, I mean common products called "Y adaptor". They do nothing but adapt 2 cables to 1 for a cheap solution where there is no "sub out" socket. I have seen a type with resistors incorporated a couple of times but I doubt these exist as commercial products.
