remote volume control

I'm in the process of building a diy DAC/Preamp.

I'm looking for a way to add volume control using a remote to my system.
Preferably a physical volume knob aswell as a remote using IR or RF.

I looked around on the ebay and found a few options, please tell me if these are even worth trying.

Any other suggestions are very welcome.

Your first link doesn't state which 'digital chip' is being used so no comment on the sound quality
By 'worth trying' do you mean that they will be reliable or that they sound good ?
Because this ALPS pots from China (like the one from your second) is of unknown source I'd only buy it if someone come up with a good review

There are quite few options for very good quality pot under 50$ margin but with remote it's another story. If Blue Velvet ALPS is alright with you, Dantimax sells some kits in very reasonable price.

Going up in sound quality there are relay based with remote starting from 100$.
It would be better to state your budget

I'll add another relative cheap solution : CS3310 based remote volume attenuator. It's an all-time classic and prefer it to new chip-based ones (expect Muses)

The second link is for the LCD option of the δ-1 relay attenuator from AMB,
While Muses is a finished product, AMB's relay attenuator is DIY with PCB and crucial parts provided. Both of them are top quality (used similar items) but way more expensive than chinese offerings

While chinese relay selectors can be found easily (and cheap) relay based attenuators are rare so no cheap solution there (anyone ?)

The second board, is the one we use in our DIY LDR kits, it needs a few modifications. We install a full wave bridge rectifier and current limit , as the standard board has signal gnd common with the AC supply ground. We then isolate the shaft ground and pre wire the board suitable for controlling the LDR cathodes. earlier models of this board were 50k, but later ones in the last two years have all been 100k. To convert to 50k we use 2 x 100k resistors one from Lin to lout for the series cathodes at LDR board J40, and the other at J25 shunt cathode across the potentiometers no longer grounded ground and left out
