Hi everyone,
I need to replace the good-old Arcam irDAC (TI PCM1796) with something "PROVEN" equal or better, on same price category or less.
Thanks to all,
Ionmw

- fine to look into "no-touch inside" offers
- fine as well to look into DIY mods offers, which can bring me in the same place.
Thanks to all,
Ionmw
You want to do any work, or just buy a dac in a box? What is the price category for what you have now?
I can accept both. It's being written above (no-touch inside = buy dac in a box). I assume that "do any work" means "look into DIY mods".
DIY work needs time, skills, parts and tools, which I got them, except debugging the digital world.
Pricewise, my standard is between x1/10 and x1/5 from retail, yet aiming and keeping only the top most serious contenders from the reference class: this said I'd start at 200€ and end - tentatively - at 600€. This was the irDAC place until say 2021. Offers from the US must factor in the shipment + 20% customs as well.

I would suggest an open source discrete resistor dac project here in the forum for your consideration. One was sent here for listening tests. IMHO its very good an likely can be tweaked to be a little better. To start with I would suggest careful reading of the first post at: https://www.diyaudio.com/community/threads/return-to-zero-shift-register-firdac.379406/
In that first post are some links my experiments and also the work of some others. Measurements and subjective SQ can both be very good.
If you feel you might be interested, please feel free to PM if you would like to discuss implementation options perhaps more to your preference. Or we could also talk about such things here. Whichever way would be okay.

This direction is very interesting for my casual weekend readings. Not the practical solution I am looking for.
In so far, it asks for reading 96 pages. Some pages are full of expert's parameters, but I am not a DAC expert.
My stomach tells to wait on RTZ technology until it reaches more steps.
In sum, this is not a DIY-MOD of an existing product (what I am asking for). This is a DIY No_DAC technology. I must pass if it needs further study. Too many cigarettes for me if I start to learn and hope to contribute such DIY effort (see page 96 - not all issues solved) - doctor's orders is to stay away.
P.S.: this is the second No-DAC reading for me in the past few days (one with inductor, one with resistors).
