I had a tweeter from my Focal Access set go partially out about a week ago. Its now not as loud as the other and at certain frequencies it has a slight buzz to it. I've always been happy with the setup I had, and how everything balanced out. BUT today, I just replaced my ancient kenwood deck for an Alpine CDA-9887 because I got a heck of a price for it. And now that I have a deck that brings out all the sound, I can definately tell why people say that the aluminum tweeters are harsh 😛. Now im debating on either buying a different set of tweeters, or ditching my current speakers entirely and going with a new type.
So first question, is there any set of decently priced tweeters that would work well with the Focals? Without having to mess with a lot of tuning?
Or if I went with a different set of speakers, which would you recommend for $250-$300 and under?
Here is what I have to help with a decision if I went with the new speaker route.
-95 Nissan 300zx
-original BOSE speaker housing, (the picture may do some justice) http://i132.photobucket.com/albums/q35/carcabin/jnj026-3.jpg
-Right now I have the Access 165-a1, and I am planning on keeping the same size if I change, and probably still components.
-Alpine CDA-9887 head
-Kicker KX800.4 for the front speakers, and is this a decent amp? I've never known for sure.
- And a kicker 12" CVR in a ported box (forgot what size, it was a custom build) hooked up to a small Rockford. (I'm swapping the CVR soon)
-I listen to mainly a mixture of late 70's-80's rock and hip hop/rap, and I'd like a speaker that could handle a beating as long as the amp could do it safely (bringing back the question above).
And I've had my mind of Hertz for a while, but haven't found a lot of info on them. I'd like to know If a pair of Hi-Energy or Energy components could work well, I heard an entry level Hertz coaxial and I was really impressed.
And thanks for any advice, it's greatly appreciated.

You can change only the focal tweeter. Look to alpine silk dome tweeter 😉 SPS1005 ???
I have the alu focal tweeter in my car and I am very happy with it, sound clean and good. When I saw the crossover I redesigned it 2nd order at 4kHz (4" woofer with 6dB crossover and an impedance compensation). The problem is, if you look in the manual of the focal set of speaker, a huge hump between 2kHz and 8kHz.
Hope this Helps.

Try to find if you have the TN-45 or TN-47 tweeter (model?). The response in frequency of the last one seems much better, as an example. Originals xovers also have +/-3dBs settings what is good.
You can also test new x-overs (...lot of work for you).😉
