Rockford Fosgate 40.2 interchange TL594 for TL494?

I'm out of 494 only have DIP version can I use a 594? Only difference I know of is the low voltage shutdown on Vcc line. Wil this part work? No LED and no power past the power FET center pins.

So your saying what I thought all along it's kinda a needless part? Suppose to protect the fets from over voltage right? When they get smoked anyways?

I'm not sure what the designer was thinking. They do clamp voltage spikes but the FETs can do that as well and are on the heatsink so they can take more stress.

My thought on it while looking at it was to protect the other FET in the event of over voltage but I always replace both anyway if one gets nuked. Thanks perry.
