The take-up reel in my Denon cassette deck (1989 vintage) is slipping, so my tapes are being eaten. No doubt the rubber idler wheel that drives it is old, hard and shrunk. Is there any stuff I can use to restore it (for a while anyway)? I searched but didn't find anything current. I can always buy another deck for next to nothing, but this is afterall DIY and I can't resist fixing things unless all is lost.
Thanks for any help!

You can try Rubber Renue...

Thanks for the responses. I found out some info that may be of interest to others who want to revive cassette decks with bad pinch rollers, belts etc. MG Chemicals makes two rubber restorers, 408A and 408C. 408 A is a newer and more expensive formula-I don't know what the difference is, I ordered the cheaper 408C. After reading reviews of it on Amazon which are very positive, it turns out cleaning/restoring pinch rollers is a two-step process: neither 408 A or C should be used- by themselves- to clean/restore pinch rollers or anything else that comes in contact with tape. This is because they contain wintergreen oil which you can imagine would cause problems with slippage if it got on the tape. If used to rejuvenate pinch rollers, you need to then clean the pinch rollers with American Recorder S-721H cleaner to remove any oil residue left by 408A or C rubber restorer. Both products are sold on Amazon. Hope this helps!
