My NAD amplifier started making a very loud buzzing noise so I opened it up and found a capacitor that looked bad. I can't find anyone selling this particular model, can anyone recommend a replacement and stockist?
I'm not sure of its function but there are two of them and they are:
SAMXON
10,000uf
50V
LP(M)
85C
HX9AS
Thanks for any help.

10000 uf caps come routinely in 2 radial packages, snap in and screw termination. The snap ins I looked at tend to have lead spacing of 22.4 mm. You need to look at the PCB to see if this standard will fit. You also need to look at the height, some are 100 mm tall. Brands come and go, three measures of quality are ESR, expected life, and temperature the life is expected at. 105 deg C 8000 hour caps have better rubber seals, presumably, than 1000 hour 85 deg C caps. Lower ESR costs more. Average ESR should be fine. I try to buy caps over 2000 hours life, and 105 deg C if I can get it. These caps are very expensive. Two US suppliers are newark.com and mouser.com. European suppliers include farnell.com and mouser.com. Farnell operates in australia. To work the auto selector on the website, click passive components, then aluminum electrolytic, then click the capacitance and voltage. You can go up to 33% higher in voltage is this is more economical or the package fits better.
I have had good luck lately with nichicon, panasonic, sprague, and rubicon caps. You typically have to download the .PDF file for the cap line to find out what the hours are, although newark used to have the rating on the selector grid. Panasonic & nichicon both sell long life and economy caps. I have seen a tech on here complaining about nichicon. You buy the economy line, you replace it in a couple of years. I have seen nichicons come out of AllenBradley div siemens motor drives, also TB Woods drives, that operated in oven motor compartments for a number of years. Very severe service. They know how to make a good cap, if you are willing to pay for it.

Samxon brand is easily find in Thailand. I found this shop sell 10000uF 63V. You can check if the size fit. The shop accept order online but not sure if they accept oversea order or not.

Thanks indianajo for the information on selecting an appropriate capacitor. They seem rare indeed in the UK and I've ended up purchasing some Illinois brand which fit on my circuit board.
WT thanks for the link. Unfortunately the particular size I'm looking for <30dx40h mm was not available.

Thanks Indianajo. Based on your advice, I opened my Nad C315BEE and changed 4 leaking capacitors (ordered at Farnell). That was an absolute first for me... and my amplifier is working again perfectly! I didn't know that capacitors had such a limited lifetime. Will make sure to switch it off in the evening. Thanks again, a 40€ job (including the soldering iron) against xxx for a new amp.
