I have an old Sansui 350 amp that my father bought before I was born. For a long time I didn't have a settled place so it was in storage. I have dug it out now after nearly ten years and it is working but seems wonky in places (only recieves four or five stations on FM when a new transistor radio recives more). Does anyone have some tips for a beginner as to how to give it a full service and get it working again? Thanks!
I have never used it with one even when it was working fine. There is a built in one that you can see in the middle and I have folded that out fully. It should be enough in an urban area.
Yes, when FM receivers are sold, even now, they come with connectors and perhaps some wire for a crude aerial. When that receiver was bought, it would liklely have come with a "T" shaped antenna made from twin, 300 ohm TV ribbon flex. You can make one up from a few metres of the ribbon flex or connect to a VHF TV antenna outlet using coax, assuming that antenna is broadband and covers FM bands well enough for good reception.
FM DAB aerials
People have been listening to FM clearly this way from many locations in many countries for decades, so I think it will work in countries that have compatible aerial polarization for FM and VHF TV.
In strong signal areas you can often improvise with a scrap of wire simply shoved in the connector but when the transmitter is moved or the owner moves, nothing works clearly, so the receiver is often stored away and forgotten. It only needed an adequate aerial. 😱
